“I don’t think it’s up to me to determine what the value is or what the market is for coaches, or what value I have created for this institution or this place,” Saban said. “I think those people” — school administrators, presumably — “made those decisions. We haven’t asked for anything.”

Technically, he's right. That's what his agent does.

I agree with him. The market is what the market is. He's just doing his job. I think it was smart of him to offer up the historical perspective about how many coaches like himself started out making peanuts. Saban is usually good at offering up perspective or giving personal stories to connect with people.

I make way more than I should too. Code monkeys like me sitting in cubicles make way too much money and have too much freedom to surf the Interwebz on company time. Life isn't fair.

You know who says, "it's not about the money?"

People who make the most money.

once you have 10-20M in the bank, you stop worrying about money altogether. You can do pretty much anything you want.

Saban is one of those rare very lucky people who discover what they are really good at and enjoy and make a career out of it AND that career is one that pays top performers really well. I mean what if your talent was slam poetry or dog grooming.

It seems to me Coach Saban answered the questions very well.

Pure BS.

Why doesn't he ask to be paid a lot less and have the school use the other money elsewhere?

Or just donate the excess to the Bama scholarship fund? $5M a year would provide a free ride for many a deserving young lad or lass.

It's not about the Money. It's about pissing off the fans of the other schools.

Your title is misleading unless there is another part that you didn't quote here. He never says "I don't believe I am worth what I am paid". Regardless...he's worth a lot more than he is paid

The main thing I like (and hate) about Saban is that his main purpose is to completely demolish other teams. He's earning his money.

He gives tons of money to charity.

His Nick's Kids charity has done a lot of good things also.

He has helped build 16 houses in T-Town and given them away through Habitat For Humanity.

He gave millions of dollars for a Catholic Student Center on campus.

Enrollment was up over 40%, athletic dept money revenue increased like by 100%, and they have contributed over 4 million in academic scholarship money and this was as of 2015 I think. It was on a 60/60 show. I might be wrong on those figures going by memory but it was an astronomical difference. CFB is a huge benefit for the cities and academic institutions when they are successful.

It's because you lowered your admissions standards while the other universities raised theirs.

Yet every year he gets paid more & more, going back from his M.State days. Just a coincidence, I know. He lives in a multi million dollar home, has a summer home worth close to a million: wondering if he has figured out a way to pay for his lifestyle if he's not about money. Not begrudging him one penny but that comment is a joke.

Yeah, I've seen that summer home. No way that's not worth at least a few million.

What I find interesting is Dabo now being the second highest coach to Nick
