I am getting tired of this rhetoric. Saban has to do what’s best for his team. You can create locker room cancers in a great number of ways. It divides the team. Distracts. Ultimately, it will lead to a team falling short of its goals.

Saban created a dog eat dog culture at Alabama - to a point. I have noticed that if a position battle is close, he almost always sided with the uooerclassman. Why? Because it’s best for the team.

Why is playing the older guy better? Because you want your team growing and developing together. You want them all to face adversity (if possible) and grow and learn from it. You want them coming along the same way if possible. They were recruited together as a class. They get small amounts of PT as Frosh and move up the next couple of years. They bond. They learn to trust one another.

You cannot just play the most talented guy at all spots at all times. I believe you play the best guy for the TEAM. Saban has a much different concept as to what that means in my opinion. He is not scared to play a true Frosh, but it is not something he takes likely. If it’s clear the younger guy is way way better, then the younger guy gets it.

Anyways Saban plays 4D chess and we probably are lucky to play checkers.

Amen. To all of it.

but I can't help but wonder if Saban would have even more championships if not for failing to make other obvious coaching decisions in the past

So, like, national championships every single year instead of 5 of the last 9?

Arguing about QBs with Huddie is futile. Save your breath. I appreciate his passion for Bama but he's still sore about Blake Barnett for God's sake.

I am sore that Jalen Hurts cost us the national title last year and the Auburn game this year. Especially the Auburn game because Tua, who is wayyy better than Blake Barnett will ever be, should have gotten a chance to win that game, but didn't.

Not against Auburn he didn't, and not against UGA
Managed to keep it a 2 possession game.

Had the lead against Auburn until 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Hurts wasn't the reason the defense couldn't get a stop on 3rd down. He also wasn't the reason Sims dropped the slant or Foster ran a route 1 yard short on 3rd down.

Still would have been only a 10 point deficit at half against UGA is Pappanastos could have made that short field goal. And the defense still had trouble getting off the field on 3rd down in the first half.

My only issue is that you refuse to put any blame on anyone else but Hurts and Saban.

Denzel Duvall over Ryan Anderson Yeldon(which is funny because Yeldon fumbled all the damn time) over King Henry Hootie over Thompson Deandrew White(before he got hurt) over Copper Benching Rueben Foster for two years

- Ryan Anderson took 2 years to develop as an edge setter in the run game. He openly admits it.

- Yeldon was a damn good running back. Maybe Henry should have gotten more touches in 2013, but Yeldon was a stud. One of the most underrated players of the Saban era.

- Hootie over Thompson there isn't much of a rebuttal. I'm sure Thompson didn't have full trust or whatever, but he clearly appeared to be better.

- I don't ever remember Coop being behind anyone. He broke out against Ole Miss, but it wasn't like he wasn't on the field before that.

- Reuben took time to learn how to be the MLB and couldn't stay on the field for 15 plays without getting a stinger. The WVU game where he had to start at MLB his sophomore year was a disaster. He had no idea what was going on.

Tua showed talent and poise, especially for his age and the moment he was thrust in. But that luck arse throw “to Ridley” on 4th down could’ve easily been picked. He does look to be a bit turnover prone in the sense of forcing bad throws. With that said, most freshmen are to some degree and his lucky TD was on 4th down so kinda have to take risks. I think most people expect him to have more turnovers than Hurts, but also make a bigger positive impact.

See what I mean?

Jalen Hurts was a true freshman FORCED into action last year because we didn't have an older QB capable of getting the job done. By your own admission, Saban prefers older players, and yet he went with a true freshman at QB. What does that tell you about Barnett and Bateman? You're an imbecile if you really think that he cost us a title last year.

I don't disagree about the AU game. I would have liked to see him get a shot but I don't think it would have mattered. But at the end of the day I'm happy we won the natty. I'll take that over beating AU any day.

I haven't even said that. Actually, I have said that Jalen Hurts must have compromising photos or information about Saban.

Nice personal attack, by the way. It's generally the last resort of a man not intelligent enough to discuss a subject with valid points. Congratulations.

Jalen didn't cost us against Clemson. The team put up 31 points. The refs let Clemson run 99 plays without a penalty. Once Clemson figured this out they ran their offense with impunity. Dabo told them get away with anything could and admitted it after the game. The thing is Clemson should have won by three TD's given the leeway they were granted.

Nah, just pointing out you bring nothing to any discussion you're part of and are one of the most annoying posters on here and the Bama board.

The most head scratching one of all-time under Sabes was playing Denzel Devall over Ryan Anderson in 2014. An absolute head scratcher of epic proportions. Completely mystifying both then and now to fans, assistants, and teammates alike. Denzel was a great guy and teammate. But wasn't 1/2 the player Anderson was.

It's not mystifying at all. Anderson was an undependable headcase for his first two or three years on campus. Devall wasn't as talented but he could be depended on to do his job. Anderson finally figured it out and was a great player obviously.
