Yeah. He's a great coach. Perhaps even the best coach ever but due to some of his decisions the last couple of years, I am no longer sure he's as good as Bryant. He certainly is not infallible.

I think he made a mistake not giving Barnett more playing time last year, which led to his transfer. Some posters talk about practice turnovers precluding Tagovailoa from starting this year, but Jalen Hurts turned the ball over 14 times last year, and fumbled several more that we recovered For that matter, if fumbling in practices will preclude you from playing, 14 turnovers in real live games should lead to any other quarterback getting a chance, even Bateman (last year). Oh, and I should add that Barnett turned the ball over 0 times. I think he'd have improved and been able to move the ball consistently enough to beat Clemson last year. Hurts managed only 2 series more than 5 plays, which resulted in Clemson running 99 plays. Our defense last year was great, but you give a good offense that many plays, and you'll get beat. Our defense also forced 2 turnovers on Clemson's side of the field, and Hurts' offense managed 3 points for it.

Secondly, I think it was a mistake to replace the offensive coordinator a week before the final game. He should have let Kiffin stay for the game.

This year, Tagovailoa is clearly way the hell better than Hurts. He should have at least played in the Auburn game after Hurts, again, failed to produce an effective offense. We've won all these games the last 2 years in spite of Jalen Hurts, not because of Jalen Hurts. He is at best an average quarterback at this level.

So yeah, I think Saban's decisions may have cost us a national title last season and a victory at Auburn this year.

It's hilarious that you or anyone on a message board think enough of yourself to second guess arguably the greatest coach in the history of College football.

He's got 6, SIX rings and counting, 5 of the last 9 NCs, and all 4 CFB playoff appearances.

But you know better than him, right internet Bill Belichick?

Please Bryant was lambasted before he switched to the wishbone. And it was commonly thought that Bear was losing it by not playing Steadman Shealy and Major Ogilvie more during the 1978 title run. Bear responded by switching to the I formation at times to shut up the critics.

Also Brandon Deaderick and Lorenzo Washington started over Marcell Dareus in 2009.

Did I say Bryant was infallible? Did I say he never made mistakes?

I am pretty sure everybody makes mistakes. The question was not "is Saban perfect". The question was if any of his decisions cost a national title. And yes, I did eleborate to include the Auburn game this year. I also admitted that I no longer am sure he's better than Bryant. Reading comprehension is fundamental.

He has won the natty more seasons than he has not in the last five years.....and folks complain. Hell if other coaches win 1 in a lifetime they are celebrated. Chiz is making a living off the one he got. lol

And had he started "better" freshmen in certain situations he may have lost as well.

Tua no doubt. he should have started way earlier in the season over Hurts. Harris no.. I think they brought him along fine. The other Harris is the better overall RB right now.

Try reading my post slowly. Bear's worst way much worse than Saban's. The lack of media scrutiny and the Internet plus time has diminished some of Bear's criticisms. But know this, there was a time during the 70's when Bear was literally on the cusp on no longer being considered among the greats in the pantheon of coaches. From 1968 to 1975 Bear Bryant had did not win a bowl game. That 8 years. Plus during that stretch Bama was humiliated by Nebraska, and out coached twice by ND and Texas. Bear wimped out in 1975 to take a weak Penn State team over tougher competition.

Now perhaps you should rethink you argument...

uhh, I said that I no longer am sure Saban is better than Bryant. Since I am not even sure enough to make a definitive statement, I am supposed to "rethink" what may or may not be a fact? In any event, it's subjective isn't it.

Don't stroke out. It's just an opinion on a chat board.

My point is alot of what you criticise Saban for, Bryant did the same thing. Playing is a reward for a lot of things- practice, discipline, acceptance of coaching, conditioning, off-field conduct, engagement with teammates. We only see the tail end of what- in many cases- are tortuous decisions.

You can argue that Najee should have played over Jacobs once Jacobs broke his ankle, but there was no reason to play him over Damien and Bo.

Saban is going to play the QB that can move the ball and not turn it over, even if it will potentially result in fewer total points. No real surprise that Hurts started all year.

Saban is the chess/college football master. He kept his higher risk, higher reward QB in reserve until he needed him.

Evidently not always the case. See Offense/Hurts/Jalen. Oh but yeah, we had really pretty offensive numbers against the also rans and sisters of the poor. It's vs good defenses when it failed so miserably.

He did well enough to put us in position to win (and you can't blame everything on him).

Not against Auburn he didn't, and not against UGA

edit: Talking about Hurts, and since Saban is the guy that decides who plays...not infallible, as previously noted.

Arguing about QBs with Huddie is futile. Save your breath. I appreciate his passion for Bama but he's still sore about Blake Barnett for God's sake.
