Honestly, I figure him for the type to coach onto his death bed.

Terry Saban won't let that happen.

None of us knows when it will happen, but I'll bet money on how it happens. Saban is too competitive to quit...too competitive against the rest of the teams in the conference and country, too competitive against himself, too competitive against time and age. But one day...either in the boat on Lake Burton, or sitting at the dinner table, or lying in bed, Terry Saban will suggest that it's time, and that will be the beginning of the end.

I agree. It just hits fast when it does. One day the routine crap we all have to deal with gets tiring and you just say the heck with it. I've got enough money and could be golfing right now. I was cruising along making good money, but my kids were done with college, my 401K was good, I was 62, and the politics at work were getting to me more than normal. I gave 6 months notice to transition my successor and said goodbye.

Nick isn't going to hang around for losing. That is his greatest fear of being average. As long as both of good health then we're good to go.

We focus on Saban but I think the wildcard in all of this is the health of Miss Terry

"Bear Bryant seemed to own the Tigers and was not the least bit intimidated by Tiger Stadium. He had a pre-game ritual that would enrage Tiger fans and calm his players. Bryant would slowly walk towards the northwest corner of the field where the LSU students sat. His players dressed in suits and ties would then walk around the field while Bryant ambled on over to the left hash mark around the 10-yard line. The Bear, completely composed, would have a nonchalant conversation with a security guard or a member of his staff while the LSU fans were screaming and yelling all sorts of things at him. After about 10 minutes, Bryant would wave to the LSU students, which prompted further abusive language and a chorus of loud boos. When leaving the field amidst the yelling and screaming, Bryant would walk right by Mike’s cage, the live tiger mascot. The purpose of this ritual was to show the team that playing at Tiger Stadium in front of 80,000 plus screaming, rabid fans was really not an issue. Bryant’s record against LSU in Baton Rouge proves the point."

AND, we'll make him quit just like we did the Bear, 20-10 in the early 80's...

And drop dead months later.

LSU killed the bear.

I understand that once, when our stadium was being expanded, Coach Bryant called his old asst coach, Charlie McClendon (a.k.a. Cholly Mac), the LSU coach, and asked a favor.
He wanted to know the upcoming dates that season when LSU would be playing away games. When Cholly Mac asked why he needed to know, Coach Bryant said that due to the expansion construction, they were having trouble scheduling all their home games, so he thought it'd be nice if Alabama could play a couple at Tiger Stadium since they'd always been so successful there.
What do you think Cholly Mac said?...........

I'm pretty sure Saban will die on the field before he retires.

As he said, As long as he's enjoying the job, he'll do it.

You either retire a hero, or coach long enough to see yourself become the villain. /Bowden and Paterno
