Saban: I don't agree with the logic that if we had more teams there would be better games

Proponents for playoff expansion say expansion would give more teams a chance to win a national title and would create more competitive early-round games, although Saban doesn't necessarily buy that last part.
"I don't know that expanding ... if these are the best four teams and they played each other, I don't see the logic in it that if we had more teams there would be better games. I don't know how that adds up," said Saban, who has long been an advocate for the SEC playing nine league games instead of eight.

It is about access. Slave owners claimed room and board was sufficient, too.

He's been advocating this since 2013 at the latest. I think Bret Bielema was the only other coach to vote yes. Go figure.

Sure, maybe #12 could beat #5 in the first round. But if #12 proceeds to play #1, off of a bye week, with the national championship on the line, it’s going to be a blood bath.

Wrong. AU has been advocating for a minimum 9 conference games. It is the MSU's that are against it.

Possibly the dumbest left-field response anyone could've come up with.

One of the few things I disagree with him on.
But his reason is he wants to be able to go into any SEC state and be able to tell them they will get to play at least one game in their home state during their time at Alabama.
I disagree because I think you show conference strength by beat OOC opponents more so than in conference opponents.

Saban gets a mulligan every season. He isn't required to win his division to even qualify for a title. frick his opinion on the playoffs.

2001 Nebraska, 2003 Oklahoma, 2015 Oklahoma, 2020 Notre Dame, and now 2021 Georgia have all been given this opportunity as well. It’s not really “the Saban/Bama” advantage anymore.
Edited to change 2015 Ohio State to 2015 Oklahoma. Also to add 2020 Notre Dame.

Coaches vote 13-1 to stay at eight SEC games
Didn't step up the last time it mattered.

You left off 2020 ND
they were in the ACC title game and lost

Georgia went undefeated during the regular season and won their division. Not even the same. They also played Clemson OOC

I'd be a lot more concerned about the shitty coach you hired than what daddy had to say.

We would.
If it were 16 teams, the 8/9, 7/10, and 6/11 match ups would be killer.
But the 1/16, 2/15 would be as bad. Then the second round would suck.
Then you’d get the same few teams in the finals.

There's usually a big debate about which 4 teams belong and somebody is left on the outside.....see 2020.
There's less of a debate if at least 8 teams are in.

If 'Bama had gotten smoked in either of those games, you may have some semblance of a point. But they won it all instead proving they belonged and were the best team those seasons.
LSU won a title with two losses. Auburn had a chance to compete for a playoff spot after losing twice in 2017 but choked hard when it counted.
The moral of the story is: don't blow your opportunity when you get it. And frick Auburn.

There would be the same debate but for 8 vs 9. Just like we debate who got left out in March madness where they have 68 teams.
