Not processed, he processed his self. It's precedence. Even if no one cares if he goes to Georgia. If you release him, you've opened up a floodgate of other players that now have justification to be released to an SEC school. Like when a high school team uses a college or pro teams logo and they receive notice to change it. It's not that they care if the team uses it but if allowed to use it, precedence now says that any team can use it and they could lose their trademark for it. The rule is written but it's funny that no one wants it changed until a situation like this occurs.

Maybe but he has known for months where Kirby was and he went through all of spring as a starter in the secondary. Tells the school thanks but no thanks and thinks he should be allowed to still workout in the facilities and hang out with the team like a player. Hell no you opted out. Sabah didn't push you out the door. As a graduate transfer why should he be allowed to transfer in the sec where he could hurt the team. He was allowed his release to Miami and changed his mind. Him and his mom are being a little too sensitive.
This is such titty baby crap. My god, let the kid go where he wants, it's to a team you're not even scheduled to play. you're not letting Cam Newton go. If you're afraid of playing him in the SECCG that shows how weak minded some folks are at Bama these days. Pretty pathetic.

it doesn't make a lot of sense that they have to sit per SEC rules.
It's in place to prevent coaches who leave from taking players who are contractually obligated to another school (and he had already accepted his grant in aid). It's the same principle as stealing client lists and information when you leave an employer to compete with them.
Coaches moving between schools is VERY common in the SEC. This conference rule regarding sitting out for a year isn't going to change.
On top of that, he had already pledged to Miami coaches and was given his release to go there.

What if you're pursuing a masters degree and the best school for your field is another SEC school?
If that were really the case, maybe, but Smith's reasons for wanting to go to Miami were "their uniform options, the professional training to play at the next level, and a need for defensive backs".

Kirby doesn't let players transfer to play for Richt without sitting out a year, nor should he have to.

Lol you're kidding right. The self righteous indignation of some people.

Serious question, if Davon Godchaux requested a transfer to A&M last year do you think Les Miles would have given him a waiver? Do you think most of the LSU fans on here would have defended the move had Les Miles denied his request?

If Satan lets him go, then he's gotta let the whole team go. How dare you believe in freedom under his grip.

Les Miles released a player to Alabama some years ago who started games here, again, not the road you want to go down. Amazing some of you gumps dont remember that.

The "floodgates" s one of the dumbest i've seen. Like suddenly 5 more guys will transfer to UGA because this kid is let go.

Phelon Jones? The guy who had to sit out the '09 season, that transfer?
Again, Mo Smith can go to Georgia, he just would have to sit out a year.
Which, coincidentally, is the same thing Kirby Smart is doing at Georgia. I've noticed there seem to be a lot more LSU posters in this thread pissed off about this than there are Georgia posters. Go figure

Not the same comparison. For one, the player transferring was a 4th string RB that hadn't graduated yet. For another, Turman said Miami wasn't even an interest for him; Kirby just listed it to set a precedent for other players. For another, it's a lot less likely for players to follow a position coach to a new school than a head coach like richt.
But in the end, who cares? If players want To follow coaches to other schools, let them. Any other student can transfer schools for whatever reason they see fit. If you're losing guys on your team because a coach leaves or transfers, then 1. They were never committed to the school or team to begin with, and 2. you did a poor job vetting a kid that would do that during the recruiting process

Again, who cares? That's the rules, grad transfers can play right away, non grad transfers cant. Welcome to years ago. This kid has 1 year left to play, Phelon had more than that and Miles still allowed it to happen. You're not helping your argument there in case you cant see that.
Why give a shite about a kid wanting to get out and go to a school to play 1 year you're not even set to play?

Apparently you. You brought it up.
I guess it's just something for LSU fans to get pissed at Saban about (15+ pages of bitching about a rule that nearly every school in the SEC abides by).

So basically Bama would get nothing from this except the smug satisfaction of inconveniencing a grad student for a year?
Roll Tide, y'all.

No, I dont care about that. It's irrelevant. It makes no difference if he can play right away or not in the argument of it being a shitty thing to block someone from where they want to go. He's a grad transfer so by rule he can play right away. Phelon was not a grad transfer so he had to sit a year but still played for 2 years after.
How is that somehow good for your argument in terms of a kid going to a cross divisional school for 1 year to play that you're not even scheduled to play? How do you not see that's an incredibly dumb argument on your behalf?

Les Miles released to Alabama
Are we really going to have to talk about this for the 4th time in this thread?
He released Phelon Jones, who then had to SIT OUT A YEAR without a scholarship before he could play at Alabama.
Maurice Smith can do THE EXACT SAME THING if he goes to Georgia. He wants to play IMMEDIATELY (which he is more than welcome to do at any school outside the SEC).
