He sat out a yr but Les Miles gave him his official release not once but twice.

The official release from Tigers coach Les Miles to begin discussions with UA came Thursday. He'll sit out this season and have two year of eligibility.

He wanted to transfer for more playing time, and originally targeted Auburn, which his release allowed him to do. But after being told there were no scholarships available, Jones went back to Miles and asked for permission to speak with Alabama.

Enough said. Nick Saban is a piece of trash who doesn't care about his players. He will accept a transfer from an SEC school but won't allow one of his players to transfer in conference. Dude is garbage and their is no defending this

Does anybody in their right mind expect the coaches to want a player that doesn't want to be there to have any involvement with the rest of the team?

I just provided the link to the bama poster that said "if he didn't want to player for the best D mind in football".....

SO?...what's your point?

It's my understanding that Mo Smith can transfer in conference. He would just have to follow the standard SEC rule of sitting out a season.

GFY...I don't need an explanation. But Mr. Smith's family def needs one. Saban is a piece of trash just like your entire fan base

Once again, M. Smith can go to Georgia and his process will be EXACTLY THE SAME as Phelon Jones was. One year there without playing, next year eligible to play.

He can go to Baylor, Clemson, Illinois, Oregon, Utah or any of the 114 non-SEC Division 1 schools and start at CB in 28 days.

Kirby blocked players from leaving UGA to go be with Richt in Miami and Saban is blocking players from leaving Bama to go be with Kirby. It's pretty standard that no program is going to let you follow whatever coach you want without sitting out a year.

It stops coaches from poaching players from their current team.

With all the assistants that move around from team to team, it makes sense to implement the same process for all conference schools (after all, you've got to draw the line somewhere).

How would LSU fans have felt if Chavis tried to take defensive players with him to A&M? Auburn fans, if Muschamp took their guys to SC with him. Same with Kirby to Georgia, or McElwain to Florida for Bama fans.

When Lane Kiffin inevitably leaves, I don't want him taking Bama's QB and best WR with him. And you really don't want to get into the business of hiring coaches as part of package deals with current college players.

So Bamas invested time and money into this kid. He gets plenty of playing time and because he is homesick for Kirby Bama should just fold. Horse crap. It's not like he is a freshman or sophomore. He's been there. Suck it up. His transferring hurts the team.

That's an interesting point that shifts my kind of thinking. When you think of them as students, who graduated, it doesn't make a lot of sense that they have to sit per SEC rules. I understand the competition piece of it, but you have graduated.

What if you're pursuing a masters degree and the best school for your field is another SEC school?

Something to think about for sure

But he's graduated from school...

I think that changes things a bit

Saban is a friggin hypocrite! He can go from LSU to LSU's biggest current rival but he doesn't let one of his players leave. What a jackass!

Did they ever bring about the SEC rule change where graduate transfers had to have 2 years of playing time available, not counting 5th year/RS options?

I vaguely remember this rule being talked about after that Oregon QB went to Ole Miss, and why Coker could transfer, with his 2 years of eligibility left.

Does Mo Smith have 2 years to play, or just one?

That apparently the guy in OP I quoted had no clue Les granted a release of a player from LSU to Alabama. A guy who even started a few games at that.

Thought that was pretty obvious.

Maybe but he has known for months where Kirby was and he went through all of spring as a starter in the secondary. Tells the school thanks but no thanks and thinks he should be allowed to still workout in the facilities and hang out with the team like a player. Hell no you opted out. Sabah didn't push you out the door. As a graduate transfer why should he be allowed to transfer in the sec where he could hurt the team. He was allowed his release to Miami and changed his mind. Him and his mom are being a little too sensitive.

He could have thrown his own stuff in the trash and taken a photo. Proves nothing.

Sounds like they're trying to get media pressure to help their cause. Not going to work.
