Saban " Assumed " the punter was in the game & wanted refs to agree

On the fourth down play Auburn sent the player in who ususlly punts and Saban assumed they would punt. Auburn had no obligation to do so and could place him whereever they wanted and he lined up at receiver.
Saban's complaint is the officials should have known he was the punter and when he lined up at receiver BAMA should have time to substitute. No such right exists.
Malzahn said he didn't line up the punter because he wanted to keep WAddle off the field , not sucker them into a penalty. He got lagniappe on that one and Saban got egg on his face.

Why the frick does this make any godddamned difference to you. Its LSU related in the sense one of the few teams which can match up relatively well with LSU has been eliminated from the playoffs, but go ahead with your sanctimonious shite if it makes you feel good.

What am I missing? If you dont want waddle on the field, dont put the punter out there at all.

Don't quite understand the 12 men on the field penalty before the ball is snapped. Seems like as long as a player is running off the field and gets to the sideline before the snap that should be good enough. Is the penalty assessed against a sub who is running in before the departing player leaves the field?
No doubt Saban will lobby to get some kind of rule change.

Wish the administrtors would be be consistent if they are going to move this thread there are about ten others on the foiirst three pages which ar enot strictly LSu connected.

He had to punt because he was deep in his own territory. The punter was going to go in motion and end up with the ball to punt. Pretty heads up play design by Malzahn. Keeps the ball out of Alabama’s best players hands. The penalty was just a bonus.
