The GOAT without NIL

With NIL, let's see how GOAT's process works.

I think a NIL-rich QB will be wise to share with his O-linemen and receivers...for the future of the process.

Ryan Day may just have taken step towards GOAT in NIL world.

Maybe Ryan can pool all the coaches salaries including his and distribute the pay equally among the coaches as an example for the players.

You do realize how the SEC distributes its dough?

In ironic form, mighty Texas (capital prowess) knocks on the door of the socialist SEC model.

I lean much more Friedman than Marx, but I do find this interesting.

The SEC does not have a "socialist" model.

The league is one single entity made up of subsidiaries. The value of the league is only as strong as the subs. They all play each other, which IS the product the league sells. If one very successful sub has no other league members to play, that sub has no success to market. This is a concept the fricking longhorns never understood, and appear to not understand now, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

With NIL, you're talking about an individual's name and likeness, and that individual being required to share with others who are much less valuable.

And, how far does this shite go? I can understand some sort of team distribution, but is a Heisman candidate QB going to be required to share his NIL with a fat, ugly, unmarketable chick on the badminton team? That is SUBSTANTIALLY unfair.

Are Auburn boosters ready to pony up and be a big time player in the bidding wars?

Although I do disagree with the SEC revenue distribution and really hope that it is re-evaluated once we are officially members
Someone in Austin had to eat their ego and understand you'll have to follow SEC rules or they'd have never applied for admission to the conference.

Don't like the terms? Tough titty - your people have already accepted them.

Im pretty sure Coach Day is dividing his salary with the rest of the coaches so everyone is paid equally.

I understand that is "just the way it has always been done" but sometimes it makes sense to look for alternative approaches. I could see a 2 tier set up for tv revenue distribution.

A Tier (50% distribution): Texas, OU, Bama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU

B Tier: The other 50% of tv revenue distributions split with all other conference members.

It's honestly not that much of a difference but will take into account more of the market value that 6 of the teams have over the other 10.

Edit: Math error. Feel like aggy now.

The "pooled" earnings the players are making all go to the schools right now. And understand I'm not one of these people who think the schools do not deserve a large cut. They are the brand/platform and support for these players. It is worth something and it costs a fair deal to keep going too. But if the players are going to be sharing a pool of money, it is only going to come from their shared labor.

Simply put, the NIL revenues are the epitome of individual earnings. The NBA Players Association doesn't pool every member's endorsement deals. The revenue sharing comes from the shared labor via salary pool of each franchise and the CBA restraints on player contracts.

I'm not going to advocate sharing NIL money, but what happens when 3 out of 5 offensive lineman aren't offered any NIL deals. Is that going to create discension amongst the players.

Would you be okay with Bryce Young making a millions dollars while your working your arse off to block for him and the RB's and making zip?

Gonna happen. Can't wait.

I have heard that Georgia is taking 75% of each player's NIL money and put it in the player's pool. Is that correct?

This is where the NCAA dropped the ball. Should have been a common pool...

Except that even the NCAA is subject to laws passed by state legislatures. This whole thing hasn't come about because the NCAA decided to let it happen. Laws have been passed to let individual players profit off their NIL. No law has been passed to allow or one player to profit from another, nor requiring a player to share.

The whole point of the NIL lawsuits was that the players wanted to gain control of their own value.

Pooling the payments was never the intent of the lawsuits, and the players aren't likely to support it.

What does Day think is going to happen when his QB gets sacked and he turns to a lineman and says "what am I paying you for?"

You do realize this is why the rest of the BigXII is happy to see you go, don't you?

That crap won't fly in the SEC.

Another dumb on this website who doesn’t understand what communism and socialism really mean.

That being said, this isn’t viable legally.

It could technically be done at the pro-level, but likely at the cost of their anti-trust exemptions as they’d have to venture into managing NIL-esque deals and engagements themselves (which would involve restructured contracts for all players accordingly to include non-compete clauses). It just wouldn’t be worth it.

There’s no chance at the college level. The universities cant even pay players yet.

Just like the states they are all based in. Always looking for a handout yet have the audacity to call us the commies (not that that hurts my feelings).
