Exactly right. The last 3 years before Propst, Colquitt was a Homecoming opponent, and they were losing games to much smaller schools...sometimes badly.

Example...Thomas County Central...my county's school, and 2 classifications lower, beat them 40-14 in 2006, and 42-7 in 2007.

In seven seasons before Propst, they were only 46-40...barely .500

Neither. I’m from north of Birmingham. My school never played against him, so I didn’t say what I said because of personal animus.

Pretty obivous what’s going on here. Again let’s take the drug allegation out. Time will tell about that. You have a economic depressed County paying a high school football coach $140,000 more than any coach ever in the state. Administration is tired off his act, not seeing the benefits of paying that kind of money want to make a change.

IMO never should have paid the guy that kind of money

"At least 53 Colquitt County student-athletes under Propst have signed Division I scholarship offers to schools including the University of Florida, Florida State University, Louisiana State University, University of Tennessee and the University of Auburn."

Thank goodness this story won’t involve Auburn University.

But I bet if the NCAA gets involved, the University of Auburn is screwed.

How do you know that? South Ga has always paid a premium for HS FB coaches. If I had to guess I would bet he more than paid for himself. His brought an unprecedented level of success to the program with a State championship and multiple trips to play in the game.

I would assume the schools booster club chipped in a good bit of his salary as well.

no doubt a poor area but its never stopped South Ga folks from paying big bucks for HS FB coaches and facilities

Colquitt County has that rich farm money. They shouldn't skip a beat with their next HC (Hoover has kept rolling without Probst).

Sure but its still a poor area in just about every statistical category and the point still stands about poor rural areas that put a much higher priority on HS FB than much better off metro areas.

Had a buddy who coached in Cobb Co and got almost a 40k raise for a coordinator position in South Ga and he barely has to teach.

Lowndes and Colquit

Valdosta moved to 6A and there are only 4 big schools {7A) left in South Ga

Camden is still good and I believe Tift Co is the 4th team

Valdosta is 6A, not 7A. They won another title recently. CC has been the big dog for 5-6 years now.

Some of these aren't even big schools either. I think Buford is only 4A (GA goes up to 7A; we have 8A in FL).

One thing in S.C. you are not able to “ double dip” as in get salary from school and booster club. Has to be all from one or another. If a booster club pays you the district can’t and vice versa. So booster clubs really don’t contribute to salaries. Maybe an assistant of a non revenue. All the coaches making six figures here are in pretty populated areas. Columbia, Spartanburg, couple in Anderson. Might be a couple more.

I think having debt collectors garnish his pay through the school is a way to piss off any school administration.
