"Every Heisman Trophy Winner should have their number retired. But this cease and desist letter is a COLOSSAL MISTAKE by Jayden Daniels' team for 3 reasons," Griffin III said.

"1. Jersey retirements are an honor. -Not something to be demanded -Not something to strong arm a school to do

"2. It creates a rift between Jayden Daniels and LSU fans, who are one of the most passionate fan bases in all of Sports. Saying you feel profoundly disrespected and are being treated differently than Joe Burrow, forces LSU fans to chose between 10-3 Jayden Daniels and 15-0 National Champion Joe Burrow smoking a cigar. LSU fans will pick Joe Burreaux EVERY SINGLE TIME.

"3. It's creates a MASSIVE DISTRACTION for Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders 3 weeks before the most important season of his career.

"Timing is everything. And this was the worst move for Jayden Daniels and his image to the masses possible."

Not wrong at all. But I'm not sure Daniels gives a rats arse about LSU at this point. I won't be surprised to see him claim his HS instead this year.

I hope Lane slaps the #5 on Sam Leavitt so that this reality TV show can get even more real. Bring on the drama. We got 3 weeks yet to fill before kickoff.

LSU is notorious for being slow about retiring numbers. It took like 40 years before Canon got his retired. Both Burrow and Daniel's number but will be retired on LSU's time-line, its just how it works.

no it didn't. His was retired right after his senior season. Literally no one ever wore 20 again. You're probably thinking of his statute at the stadium. That wasn't finished until 2018 and, unfortunately, he died a few months before it was unveiled

Everyone else who's had their jersey retired, yeah, it's taken between 38 and 56 years

He's 100% correct.

However, I suspect we are going to see more of these types of situations as we've gone from players who care about where they play to the 100% mercenary model in college sports.

Yeah it’s a misguided approach to this.

Daniels just went from likeable to unlikeable overnight.

Myself and most LSU fans don't give a rats arse where he claims to be from. He is a dumb spoiled brat.

Crushed? He just ruined his image in the short term. He had made himself a legend at LSU, now overnight he is basically a Walk-On QB.....

This is all LSU's fault. They left such a gray area on the whole retired number things and wait so long to retire a number. Bert Jones is just getting his retired. Put their name and number in the stadium but re issue the number to other players. There is no reason to make them wait so long. Hilliard, Dorsey and Faulk should already have their number retired.

LSU’s policy since 2007 is that they do not retire numbers. They are not retiring Bert Jones’ 7

Hell no, it's a stupid award if people are being honest.

You get a trophy, shut up and stop demanding more tribute.
