Do the stars really matter??? Calloway will be the same player regardless of what Rivals does... But Rivals always bumps at least one or two BAMMER players up and usually bumps one or two Auburn players down... they have done that for years...

IMO, Calloway should drop at least 1 star if he is to play RB. I think Wilder should drop a star as well if evaluated as a RB. Westerman has a good chance of picking up a 5th star. Hart will also.

And we were recruiting Frost as a WR, but he was an ATH, even though almost everyone assumed he'd end up at LB. Same thing goes for Calloway. We may be recruiting him as a RB, but most everyone I've seen assumes he'll probably end up at LB, which is where bama was recruiting him.
He's a guy that can play a couple different positions, even safety, as one of my bama friends thought he'd end up at if he'd stuck with bama. That's the definition of an ATH recruit.
And in the long run, it really doesn't matter, but I just find it funny that rivals conveniently would pigeon hole him at RB and possibly drop him a star, after he commits to us. Oh well, such is cruitin'...

Landry won't be given a fifth star unfortunately but he's the best receiver in the country and I wish the rankings would indicate as much. Oh well he'll still be a beast for us.

sorta like they bumped up Coleman last year and then the Denson kid out of now where this year...come on man the theory for the bias really gets old especially when there are examples of stupid ratings on all the big schools in the SEC not to mention AU beat UA in the rankings last year.

Crowell should finally receive a 5th star. One of our Oline commits might drop down from a 4 to a 3, maybe.

I believe I read somewhere that Calloway is still being evaluated as a LB. I expect him to keep his 5th star, but maybe get jumped by some people.

Will Tyrann Matthieu retroactively get a fourth star ? I hope so. I'm tired of Les recruiting under-the-radar guys that disallow me from making a t-shirt up like the Gumps .
Dareus was a 3 star FWIW.

CJ Johnson could make a huge jump. He is like no. 136 or something right now? But I could see him getting a 5th star after very good showings at the MS/AL all star game and the Army AA week.
No

18 tackles in an all-star game is a bit ridiculous. And the Rivals guys have said as much that he will make a huge jump and contend for a 5th star

As soon as Crowell commits to Bama, Rivals will raise him to a 5* accordingly.

I know that our kicker went from being the number 1 kicker for 2 years to being 3rd or 4th at the last minute and that kicked us back a spot in the Rivals rankings last year. Something about how position ranks get bonuses? But he was the number 1 kicker for the entire senior season and got a last minute bump down.

Really? Really? This is your proof that Yahoo! Inc. hates Auburn University for no apparent reason and also loves the University of Alabama above all others for no reason?

I don't know why they didn't drop Jujuan James or Keenan Allen down a star last year. Bama rules should apply all the time. Maybe Allen was too late but they certainly had time to drop James.

It's not about loving or hating. The simple fact is that Rivals is a business (and one that isn't paying the dividends Yahoo expected as well).
Rivals primary source of revenue is subscriptions. There are far more Bama subscribers then there are Auburn subscribers. There are also far more potential subscribers to target on the Bama side. At some point objectivity is going to give way to what's best for business profits.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that it's better for the bottom line to appease Bama fans. Obviously they couldn't - or wouldn't - take this to the extreme, but borderline calls are a different story. For example, if they're waivering on whether Calloway is a 4 or 5-star, his decommitment from Bama and switching to Auburn on national TV is going to tip that scale for them, no doubt.
