The one good thing Finebaum has ever done on his show is roast Rita Rodriguez so hard that she refused to let Rich take the job.

And 17 years later he's now an FBS head coach in the state of Alabama.

December 6, 2006, just might be one of the darkest days in the history of Alabama’s rivals. At the time they were as giddy as hell, but since that day it has been nothing but bad news for the vast majority of SEC football fans.

He did and his biggest professional regret was leaving. Kind of a slap in the face to Bama.

He wasn't regretful enough to go back.

I remember everyone making fun of us after his first year. “You paid 5 million dollars for this?”

LOL…..good times

Can’t blame him. Smart man. Who would want to live there?

But he’s living in Alabama now and coaching at JSU.

I was boarding a plane in ATL on the way to Cabo for a week when I picked up the fricking newspaper and walked on the plane. I literally thought Bama was fricking doomed if a schmo like Rich Rod turned down the job. Little did I know Mal was boarding a plane to MIAMI.

Bring back Mike Shula. He was a perfect fit for Bama and the Gumpland fans.

I like boring. I hate watching beautiful rural areas get developed into a concrete hell.

How about what really could have been. Alabama hires Rich Rod.
Is Saban still going back to college football that year or the next? What school might he end up at. The SEC seemed pretty happy with most of their coaches at the time.
How long does Meyer, Miles, Tuberville, Fulmer, Spurrier, or Richt last or possibly win championships with Saban still in the NFL or at least in another conference.

Paul road Rich Rods’ wife into the ditch and she was the reason they backed out of the job.
Mal wanted Saban all along. The board and upper fat cats wanted a coach hired yesterday. Mal went to pick up RR and bring him to Tuscaloosa. They met and RR wanted to go home and tell his team he was leaving for Bama. Mal felt like if he went back to West Virginia he would stay. And that school talked him into staying.
The rest is history.
And Mal M. Is the main reason Nick is at Alabama.

Might have been the death blow for cfb as a national sport too. They don’t care in the NE and other regions, not because they don’t care about football, it’s because they can’t compete.
