In my LSU law school class we had 2 Alabama alums. One is a great guy, great college football fan, and overall a fun and good natured human being who i still keep in touch with. The other was an absolute clown who wore Bama gear to class and acted exactly like you said, personally special in some way bc he was an a Alabama fan. he came to the 1L lottery for LSU tickets wearing Alabama gear and talking shite. And then wondered why he had trouble making friends, he transferred out after 1L year.

it was an perfect microcosm of the Alabama fanbase.
Every fanbase in the south is like this. Go to Gulf Shores and every single person is in purple and gold and theyre running their mouths to anyone that will listen.

Yea, I was gonna say, all those things I said about Alabama folks very easily apply to other big state schools around the country : LSU, Tennessee, Ohio State, etc.

Nothing better than having a redneck slackjaw come up to you and start gabbing about football and your team and their team and blah blah on a random April afternoon at the gas pump.

This is an advanced one - could get a 1-2 knock out depending on the answers.

It works better in reverse. Asking a far right Alabama fan if we should judge their fanbase on the Harvey Updykes out there is fun.

(1) Identify the person as a sidewalk redneck bammer racist
(2) Parallels

Very well placed.

I can understand other SEC schools picking at us about our fans but LSU fans have no room to talk.

Any successful team has a lot of Sidewalk/bandwagon fans.

It's not just Bama.

Look at ND, Michigan, Ohio State etc.

And every fan base has their crazed fans. Take this story from just last year:

quote:

A 30-year-old Cowboys fan was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a 2015 shooting in the AT&T Stadium parking lot.

Marvin Rodriguez was involved in two fights in the stadium parking lot on Oct. 11, 2015, two hours after a Dallas Cowboys-New England Patriots game ended.

I never and will never understand the whole “sidewalk fan” bullshite. It’s makes zero difference if someone actually attended the school or not. If only people that went to the schools could root for that team then college football would die. It makes no sense at all. I know many of people that never attended LSU but are the biggest diehard fans that are season ticket holders every year.

Agree, but this specific conversation is totally different than that. This about folks in-state who have been Alabama fans forever. It's of course partially because of our historical success, but that group didn't really fluctuate a whole lot because we got good with Saban.

Outside of the state/region? Yea I'm sure it did, but those are different types of folks.

Nothing wrong with the majority of Alabama fans that have been fans since birth basically. Just because I chose a different route after high school shouldn't mean my fanship is suddenly mitigated or something to be embarrassed about.

Sure the trashy fans are embarrassing, but not because they're Alabama fans. It is unfortunate that they are our stereotype, but most people that hate Alabama (mostly due to its success and some trashy fans) refuse to admit there are many normal fans as well.

Auburn fans are exactly the same here, most are fans since early childhood. Both fan bases are very loyal to their respective team.

Everything is wrong with it. Have some pride in the school you attended. If you just want to cheer for a team out of sheer fanhood, watch the NFL.

Were you expecting a different answer than the one I gave? For the purposes of discussion, do you want me to withdraw my original response and give you one less enlightened? Because I really want to see where you were trying to go with this.

I think those are the people everyone is talking about.

Most rational people don't get irritated by people who grew up loving their team and chose to do something else (military, other college, go to work) out of high school. It just so happens the overlap between trashy and non-alum generally is very high. Most non-alums aren't trashy, but most trashy people are non-alums.

So, that's why they get lumped together, fair or not.
