Kerry Stevenson, Jody Wright, and Willie Carl Martin all started out like this. As did Jeremy Pruitt. Sam Petitto is in player personnel with ties in Louisiana.

Kerry Stevenson came from Vigor, but who from his school came same year or next year to Bama?

Jody Wright didn't coach HS football in this state. He played at JSU then went to MSU for a while before coming to Bama in 2010 as a GA.

Willie Carl Martin was hired in Saban's first year at Bama at a time when Saban said at his opening PC that he was probably going to hire an Alabama HS coach to be on his staff since he had limited connections to the HS coaches in this area. Martin came from Benjamin Russell. Who did Bama sign from there that season or since?

Sam Petitto was not hired out of HS ranks by Bama. He was hired off of UGA's staff.

Jeremy Pruitt is the only one that fits the narrative of "he was hired to deliver a player from his HS to Bama", but that's a tough sell since Pruitt played at Bama and already had connections to Alabama.

My point is, you can't point to a hire of a HS coach by Bama specifically to get a player...and you can't point to Bama hiring a coach directly from HS to their staff in recent years.

Not knocking it, but Gus has done it a few times lately (if Bryant's coach is hired, which he is denying).

Eh, Arkansas fans and Auburn fans don't care enough about each other despite what some fans on either said want to believe.

Which one besides potentially Bryant's? Bentley's is the only one I can think of directly tied to a recruit, and USCe hired him before Bentley's freshman year so even then it didn't do anything. Are there any others I'm forgetting?

Your point was to act like Bama was above everyone and didnt do those things, despite the contrary. You said bama only hires ex college coaches, despite the contrary. Boss...

That and he clearly is a pretty damn good coach.

I've heard that you wouldn't guess it from actually conversing with him, he comes off as a complete dunce. Just seems like one of those guys who "just gets it" for FB and the game makes sense

I'm not saying any of them are tied to a specific recruit, and Gus may just hire coaches directly from HS ranks because that's how he got his start, but he hired Chip Lindsey in 2013, Bentley in 2015, and Felton (if it were to happen) would make three.

I've met him a few times. Can confirm. He definitely has his areas of expertise, but I would never describe him as a "bright" person after talking with him.

Obviously though that has no bearing on his coaching ability.

Bama isn't above playing the game, but most of the analysts Bama has hired lately have been from the college ranks. I'm pretty sure the last time they hired directly out of HS ranks was 2013. He last time before that was 2007. Bama doesn't make a habit of it.

despite the contrary

And I addressed each of those candidates specifically with additional evidence.

Who?

Chip Lindsey and Bobby Bentley within the past 3 years and possibly Felton this year. Again, I'm not knocking it. Try not to be defensive (shite, im defending AU in this thread for goodness sake)

Del McGee too. But they were also only hired as analysts, just like the coach rumored here. Our LSU friend acts like we are hiring a guy who will take a spot on the field.

Is this any more cheating than the gumps hiring a recruits girlfriend? Or their mother? Hmmm.

Pruitt's a meathead, but he knows football. It all works fine, because he coaches a lot of meathead's too.

The LSU guy is claiming we are Hugh Freezin' this one and hiring him to an on field position coach role though

When pointing to off field roles to get recruits, that gets pretty hard to connect. These guys often take pay cuts to just cut film and break down obscure things (if you aren't a Sark type resume). It isn't really a great "bribe" to deliver recruits typically

Has he? Besides an entry level analyst position? And neither of those coaches had a recruit we signed I don't think.

Oh absolutely. He is like a mechanic that when you make small talk you wonder how he can tie his shoes, but then he gets talking to you about the piece of equipment he is working on and he can talk circles around you.

You're right - just sumpthin about this state. I recommend that UAB cheat early and often as they're returning - from what was it? Oh, yeah, having their program killed.
