the first college football game I went to was LSU-Tulane in 1963 or 64....you could get a kids ticket in the North End Zone for $1.00

Great post but Arkansas was not who swapped LSU for Mizzou for rivalry week. That was the SEC. No one in Arkansas was happy about the switch.

In the mid-1980s, pranksters cut the lock on his cage before another Tulane game, allowing Mike IV to run free on campus and demolish a few small pine trees.

I'm pretty sure it's "Whisker Biscuit".

Unless you mean "Whiskey Bravo".

I will never forget a bumper sticker put out after Tulane beat LSU in 1981. “Culture 48, Agriculture 7.”

This picture still hangs in the family restaurant in Metairie.

Best part is: My uncle's wife (uncle now owns the restaurant from Grandfather) is a Tulane fan.

My dad attended LSU from 69-73 or so. Also born and raised in Metairie.

His explanation for why Ole Miss despised LSU (and still does) is simply this: Ole Miss is filled with a bunch of rich New Orleans kids whose daddies couldn't get them into Tulane.

So Ole Miss started to really hate LSU because their students grew up hating LSU.

I remember my uncle would often sing this during LSU games... no matter who they were playing. I am fairly sure it originated from Tulane:

Up above the Mississippi standing in plain view Stands an old abandoned outhouse known as LSU

Oh the odor, oh the odor, oh what a terrible smell, Before I'd go to LSU I'd rather go to hell.

Go to hell LSU, go to hell.

People talk about non-conference rivalries still playing like Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech, and South Carolina-Clemson trying to compare that to LSU-Tulane fail to take into account the fact that all of those other schools are state insitutions, not private. All of those other rivalries have champions in their respective legislatures that would never let them die.

Tulane made two big mistakes by de-emphasizing football and quitting the SEC but what hurts them the most was their decision to prioritize attracting and serving out-of-state students. That may have helped its academic reputation nationally but did little to engender local fan support. They've left themselves with no one to fight for them.

I’ve lived in Louisiana my whole life and have never met someone that went to Tulane for undergrad. I know only a handful of people that went to law school there. They mine as well move the school to the east coast so most of the students will be closer to home

I don't believe most LSU fans care extra about A&M. On this site though, there are A&M fans who like to poke the nest and it has fomented "hate."
