Bear got it right about Reggie.
Jackson hollering about all the "racism and hate" he faced.
BULLfrickINGSHIT!
He was one of the highest paid players. He was all over televison. On every magazine cover. Dated White women almost exclusively. Reggie hats, jerseys, and other merchandise everywhere. He even had his own damn candy bar.
How did he act? Like a racist jackass.
Oppressed my arse.

They call each other that every single day. If it was such an offensive word, this wouldn't happen.

I wonder if the word was used more in the 1960s or today. I would guess it used more today.

This is easy. It's today. Rap didn't exist in the 1960s.

uhh...White folks are what 60% of the population...they were using the word a ton in private and public, and black folks still used it amongst themselves...it was said far more in the 60's

Bear was just ahead of his time. These days, young black guys will use “N*gga Boy” as their social profile name with pride.

especially the rural South
Here’s where people go wrong with this. White people especially poor white people who grew up in rural areas were around black people their whole lives. It’s the people who lived in the cities who were more segregated and interacted with black people rarely. People like Bryant and Pat Dye were around black people from the time they were little children. This idea that rural areas were more segregated isn’t based in any fact. Atlanta and Birmingham were far more segregated than the rural areas of Georgia or Alabama.

Of course he said it. He was racist as hell.

Let me guess. He is black, so it's okay?

Reggie always played up the race card. Even used it against billy Martin a few times. Mr October was maybe the greatest baseball player ever. He’s was also the most unliked teammate. Watch the film about the 77 Yankees. Thurmon Munson who was probably the most liked yankee told him he was a whiner, a crybaby and didn’t he have anything he wanted.

Reggie understood that Bear wasn’t trying to be offensive. Things were different back then. I saw a black kid outside the fence of the city pool looking in at all of us swimming because he wasn’t allowed in there and never thought a thing about it. Does that make me a demon?

But you suddenly did decades later?

The idiot that wrote this article on.al.com thrives on racist rant articles to drum up his readership. Roy S. Johnson, a black racist. I highly doubt the Bear said that

Did what? That happened all the time with no second thought about it. I don’t feel any guilt about it if that’s what you’re after, I was a little kid and that’s the way it was.
If you want to crucify someone for something that happened 60 years ago then by all means gfy…
