quote:Hell, just sit him for a few series. Get him on the sideline with Austin/Nix, review the previous plays & let him clear his head. Let him see what the defense is doing, make a few adjustments and re-group. Adjust the game plan, scheme to take some pressure off the QB, run the damn ball.
THAT was my biggest beef with the plan Saturday. I don't have any faith that the backups are better QBs, but Thorne was definitely rattled and probably needed a seat on the bench.

Gotcha. I think the burnout rate for coaches as a whole is much higher than it used to be. That, combined with Auburn probably being worse off than he expected, has to take a major toll on the guy.
Freeze regularly searches for his mentions on Twitter and them DMs people who speak bad about him. That's how thin skinned he is, which is a horrible trait to have in his profession.

I've been a HS track & XC coach for 24 years. I spent the last 16 at the same school, won a couple of state championships and generally loved it. But it does become stale after a while. I finally moved this year to a bigger/better program and feel rejuvenated.
I know SEC CFB must be 10x as rough. And Auburn is about as hard on a coach as can be. But Freeze should still be pretty excited to back in the SEC, especially with the way he has been recruiting. If he isn't then that is a real problem. He also has a huge golden parachute when he eventually fails which takes some of the pressure off of him.

Correlation?

Exactly. Getting pulled from a game doesn't have to be a career death sentence. But if something isn't working you need the balls to try something else.
I think that was a lot of the frustration we felt with Gus.

Haha it's most definitely part of it. He looked the exact same towards the end of the tenure at OM.

I have no clue where you're pulling up the 36 hours thing.

At Ole Miss like 70% of his diet was Snickers ice cream bars and coke zero. Only slightly exaggerating. He also had terrible sleep habits.

That is a BIG reach.
You're talking about a man who still insists that Ole Miss shouldn't have fired him after helping get the school on one of the worst probations in College Football AND getting caught calling hookers on a school issued phone. We're talking about a guy who actively searches his name on twitter after losses (and sometimes wins) to DM and argue with people. He tried to end an OM beat writer's career because he asked Laremy to clarify whether or not he was paid to go to Ole Miss.
Think about how many times last year he publicly took credit for good plays and blamed Montgomery for bad plays on the same drives.

I mean that one is an experienced coach and the other is a former superstar player/hype man who is apparently seeking to make a name for himself and his kids.
Maybe some of that with Freeze, but I wouldn't put them in the same category.

If he doesn't start winning, that class will vanish. Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson may evaluate what Ryan Williams does and come to the conclusion that they made the WRONG choice.
It’s all about the money. The recruits know we’re in a rebuild and they will be the ones to turn things around.
The current roster is remnants of Harsin with a patch job of lower tier transfer players.

He's always been egotistical, but I remember him taking blame for bad decisions and losses at Ole Miss. To be fair, games like the Memphis loss were 100% on his ego, but I seem to remember him saying it falls on him when we lost. I think a big part of it back then was he was portraying a certain image to the public and he was committed to the role of that character, but now that he has been exposed as a fraud he can be who he truly is. Who he really is, is someone who doesn't want the money men of Auburn blaming him and he will throw others under the bus to make sure he stays popular with the boosters.

It pissed Nutt off so bad he hired Tom Mars and sued Ole Miss, Mars pulled the company phone records & found the escort service. Ole Miss reviewed all of the phone records, and paid Nutt a hefty settlement + fired Hugh for a "pattern of personal misconduct."

Difference between him and Jimbo is Hugh can recruit the lines well and wants to recruit the lines well.

You don't think there are winning teams that can pay?

The recruits know, after one year, whether they will be in a successful program or not. You actually think they care about being the one's to rebuild?

You’d be a pretty shitty recruiter and coach if you based a rebuild of a program off of 1-2 years.
Thankfully Freeze is neither and he has a nice top 5 class lined up and is killing it for 2026 as well.

He better start winning some games. He won't coach the 2026 team if he doesn't. It's the Auburn way.
