Really Interesting That the SEC Didn't Mention Forfeiture of Wins as One of the Sanctions

I see both sides of the argument to what's going on.
However, if the SEC really wanted to threaten schools they would have looked at forfeiture of games that the "pro players" played in.
Doing this would deem them ineligible players. Not doing this is almost an admission that these players are eligible but "we just don't like it" so we'll selectively penalize the coach and fine the school.
Dangling forfeiture of wins out there is the only thing that would change the perspective of teams wanting to recruit the 2022 guys. Legally, it seems that the league can't do it or it would have been done already.

There is already a rule for playing an ineligible player. Why another?

You don't think a penalty (attempt) of half the school's football budget would be a deterrent?

The OP is probably the most SEC thing ever uttered (or typed, I suppose). "Who cares if they fine my school millions and millions of dollars and take away our conference voting rights, so long as they don't make us forfeit any football games!"

I don't think HCs want to miss half the season. That one alone is going to give a head coach pause.
These University presidents made this happen. They agreed to fine themselves millions. Putting this all on Sankey's plate when the presidents are making this a reality is crazy.
That hill just got a little steeper for HCs than otherwise. I would proceed with caution. But that's just me.
