I’m out in left field to your thinking because I’m not a lemming like most fans are. Every player is extorting their school. Why is Nico suddenly the lightening rod? Because he did it during spring practice? There are going to be hundreds of players all hit the portal next week. Are they all evil?

I could care less about Nico and whether he gets more or less money. I don’t care about Tennessee either. I just find it so hypocritical that suddenly fans look at Huepel as some man of justice because he decided Nico wasn’t worth more. My team lost our top WR to Auburn for the exact same reason. We didn’t want to pay him what he thought he was worth, while Auburn did. Good for both sides. Our coach isn’t some saint because he immediately went out and bought 2 more recievers from another school just like Huepel will do.

You guys are just so darn emotional about NIL and the portal. The days of players being held hostage are over which means the talent will move around. It’s just business, Maybe Nico made a poor business decision. Maybe Tennessee made a poor or great business decision depending on how their season shakes out. Players are on 1 year deals so getting butt hurt when players want to renegotiate every year is funny to me. 1 year contracts should be renegotiated every year should they not?

I personally don’t believe Nico is worth what Huepel was willing to pay him nor what someone will pay him next week. I also don’t believe Singleton is worth what Auburn is going to pay him and I’m glad my team made a business decision to let him walk. I also don’t think Beck is worth what Miami paid for him. But I have no problem with the players asking and accepting offers. The schools could stop all this by simply not offering.

Don’t need respect. It’s a message board. Here’s my prediction - you guys will be whining and threatening to leave the sport every other thread for the next decade because you are emotional people. Nico will sign for more money and Tennessee is going to have a long season.

Precisely. I think now after UT drew their line, players will possibly reconsider due to seeing a school say “no”, move on, and all the backlash associated with it.

He was already making 2.4 million….more than 90% of the fans that come and watch him. UT was holding up their end by paying him what he agreed to. What stats are you looking at that shows he’s worth more than what we were paying him? If he stayed the course and actually took a step this year, he would triple what he’s asking for in the NFL. He’s not above the other players in the locker room and not worth the headache. If a school pays him what he’s asking for…that’s on them.

I think you're just slow.

Just like Milroe will get drafted in the 1st round. Some jackass will pay Nick to hold the ball way too long.

I don’t think Nico was worth 2.4. I’ve said that multiple times. I think he’s a bum. But Tennessee thought he was worth 2.4. Some school will pay him that if not more. I get that Tennessee fans are upset they lost their starting QB.

I also find it funny that folks are so upset about the Tennessee QB room. I really don’t care. But I love how Huepel is now a hero because he wouldn’t budge off 2.4 million for a mediocre player. Maybe Tennessee fans should be asking why in the world were they giving him 2.4 based on all the stats you guys have posted?

Starter for a playoff team. Had everything he could want except money (and actual talent)

I hope so. Also hope schools reconsider before allowing this behavior.

He had plenty of money, he was making over $2 million per year and was likely overpaid as it was.

The one thing we have seen over the last 60 years is that schools won’t consider anything that hampers winning. You guys now magically think Bama, Tenn, and UGA will all pass on a stud because he wants X number of dollars? If Nico wasn’t any good then why did Huepel give him 2.4 and the starting job? I’m sure Huepel is feeling nice and rosy because some college fans believe he stood against the system all while he’s holed up in his office going over the waiver wire with his assistants trying to figure out who he can poach before he loses 6 games in a few months.

Doesn’t matter. Heupel won’t win anything of significance in the long term. He’ll be fired before his contract is up.

Nah, these guys aren’t impacted by backlash, because they never had any loyalty to the school to begin with. It was always about muh money

Program after program is telling the press they want no part of Nico. I’ve never seen anything like this. I understand telling UT good for you taking a stand but I’m shocked at how much of a pariah he has become because his dad represents everything cfb hates right now.

Talk about a backlash. It just keeps growing.

I think people are realizing that if Nico becomes a pariah, if he can't land a top job at a top school, it will put the brakes on some of this free agent BS that's plaguing college football.

Re: ... if he can't land a top job at a top school, it will put the brakes...

Three 5* wide receivers in Texas quit on their teams in the past 2 years and all are still looking for a place to play; one each from Texas, A&M & TTech. They each learned hard & painful lessons. That doesn't mean others won't follow in their footsteps, or that they won't do the same things again. But there are more and more examples of big ego's resulting in big financial losses. Will kids learn? I wouldn't bet on it.

Re -"I’m not a lemming like most fans are ..."

No, your a special kind of lemming.

Entering the transfer portal in the windows stipulated is nowhere close to practicing with your teammates and coaches one day, only to stiff them and walkout the next day. They gave you support and worked hard to benefit you, and you quit and shite on them.

Not to mention breaking an agreement that both parties entered into in good faith.

His father probably put him up to it, but he has reached the age of maturity and is an adult and is 100% accountable for his own actions.

Breach of Contract and Extortion are not things to be proud of.

First off, his play last year didn't justify the $2.whatever million he stood to make next season, so asking for $4M wasn't exactly knowing his value.

On top of that, shopping himself to Oregon - who everyone knows would pay whatever he is actually worth - during Spring Practice is a bitch move. No one likes hold outs in the NFL. The blame is almost always put on the player.

Everyone can cheer UTK for not paying Nico what he isn't worth, but that is just a business decision. I have even more respect for Dan Lanning if he did call Knoxville and tell them what their QB was doing.
