Mississippi State markets their university as "the people's university", which presents an image of open arms to the common folk. Ole Miss is seen in MS as the rich kid's school, and it's always been that way.
MS is the poorest, most redneck state in the country, you do the math.
(This is not very important though because we have a much stronger presence out of state, in reality the fanbases are very similar in size)
