Tennessee is higher, they're just quiet lately.
atm does desearve to be high from shear numbers but the have the highest % of disinterested fans. I lived in Texas for 10yrs, half of atm fans don't even know who they're playing. I've been at parties in Texas where the game wasn't even on the tv.
LSU fans plan all weddings and vacations around football season.

Didn't see very many Mizzou fans in Columbia last year. Must mean they have a small fanbase.
As the stats have shown in this proverbial dick measuring contest, ours is bigger than yours. We just don't get around.
Instead of using our vacation time on college football games, we go to Europe and the Caribbean.
Plus, there's no direct flights from St. Louis to Columbia Jr. And there's no way you could expect us to drive 15 hours to SC for a weekend. That's a long time to sit in a Range Rover.

you'd probably have to stop and take the chains off the tires as you enter SEC country too. it would just be a pain.

Alabama has to be number 1 without a doubt. A lot of people have jumped on the band wagon because of their recent success.
I feel like Florida and LSU are 2a and 2b. They both have far reaching fan bases that extend all across the country. If I had to pick one I guess I'd lean towards Florida at 2 and LSU at 3

Bah. Chains are for people who aren't used to driving in snow.
That's the only reason our SUV's have four wheel drive.
God knows we wouldn't dare use it for work or to go "mudding".

Now I know you're really fricked up or trying to be funny. More like Cards>Chiefs>Mizzou>Rams>Royals>Missouri State>Arkansas>OU>Jayhawks

A&M has the second largest number of living alumni among current SEC schools, so in terms of non t-shirt fans we should be higher.

Mizzou has enjoyed success over a long period, fans cross generations. That's a big difference in them and the newbies to any success. Can't win that argument.

Ranking the size of SEC fanbases, IMHO
OM has a much higher fanbase outside the state so your argument is irrelevant
I do see a fairly representative smattering of red and blue in the N.O. area.

Per the original post
Would wager that Auburn takes a bigger bite from Georgia than GT does.
quote:I'd put Tennessee slightly ahead of Auburn, and place them both right below Georgia. There's a lot of interstate fandom in the eastern Deep South for those schools.
1 Florida, yes they have to share their fans with other Florida schools. But Florida is such a populous state, and they are a national brand.
2 Alabama may be number one, but they do share fans with Auburn so I put them here. Their fan base does spill over into to other States, however.
3 LSU does not have to share fans in the State of Louisiana.
4 Georgia, GT does take a small bite.
5 Texas A&M, populous state but many Texas schools.
6 Kentucky owns the State, with the exception of Louisville.
7 Missouri, only relevant university in the state.
8 Tennessee, UT is still the flagship but not by near the margin they once were. They are in retreat.
9 Auburn, too bad Bama has so many titles.
10 Arkansas, only relevant university in the state.
11 South Carolina must share the bowl with Clemson
12 Ole Miss the flagship
13 Miss State has a good following despite the low ranking
14 Vanderbilt, low ranking but growing. Tremendous opportunity to sell its brand.
Would wager that Auburn takes a bigger bite from Georgia than GT does.

SC is a larger school in a more populated state and they not only share their state with another SEC school but also a sizable D1 school in USM (so you can throw that well SC has USC and Clemson in it crap)
