Memphis >>> Mustard.

I respect SC's game, but Memphis is way better.

Haven't been to all the places everwhere, but I've eaten BBQ in every state in the conference except Kentucky, Arkansas and the Sip.

Obviously the chipped pork vinegar based BBQ is very different from brisket, but I'd give Mizzou the nod with brisket. The best places are barely in the state though as all are right on the border with many on the Kansas side.

Barbecue was basically invented in North and South Carolina. Everywhere else just put their own spin on it.

Fair. I went with familiarity in Oklahoma, but might be sleeping on GA too much I'll admit.

Not even close. Tomato base sauce is amateur hour. I'll even take Alahama white sauce over that. The kicker is SC has fantastic brisket as well.

Texas running a close 2nd behind Korean

Then KC, Carolina’s, and Memphis

Controversial take, I kinda like white sauce. I do think Alabama is at the head of the next tier just behind the more traditional regional styles

I respect South Carolina barbecue a lot. It is probably my favorite state barbecue as a whole. However Memphis ribs are the best form of barbecue and Its not close

Barbecue is just different.

Everyone here is going to have to admit that they’ve had good barbecue everywhere.

This is the thread where Texas A&M and Texas fans team up to become insufferable BBQ superiority bitches.

The Texas side of my family ... it's the only thing they agree upon between the Aggie, Longhorn, Baylor, and Tech members.

BBQ was invented in SC. Pork and Chicken. We're the best Pork ... and the most varied from the Low Country to the Upstate. It's got to do with the early German heritage in the state.

Memphis is a melting pot.

KC is good.

Texas does Beef the best imho.

Anyways ... jmho.

I agree with this. Kansas City BBQ is unmatched. Texas BBQ is too greasy, Oklahoma BBQ is good, Memphis BBQ is average.

Pork bbq is like learning the abc’s. Anyone can do it. You’re state isn’t special. Good beef bbq is on a whole nother level.

I still stand behind the idea that when Korea joins the SEC, they will be #1

One of the many reasons they arent the South. They relate more to Western culture than southern

The problem is that Memphis and Kansas City are just cities with good bbq. The whole state of South Carolina has amazing bbq and it is engrained in the culture.

But to be congenial, give me KC/Memphis Ribs, Texas Brisket and SC pulled pork/hash for the win

Tennessee BBQ, Memphis specifically, is the best by a mile.

Barbecue is a traditional southern food. The main protein of southern cuisine is pork. Beef is the protein of the Western US because cattle need acres to roam and traditional southern farms grew cotton and tobacco not cattle ranches.

The difference between southern barbecue (pork based) and western barbecue (beef based) is the protein. SEC barbecue is pork not beef

Barbecue is a cooking method and the meat of choice was usually whatever was cheap in your locale. Texas had a cattle boom following the CIvil War, so there you have it.
