aTm is kind of weird. I think their whole collegiate experience is based on the traditions and brother/sisterhood of being an Aggie than the actual college experience.
Not talking bad, but I liken it to people from some big corporation having pride in their company and taking real pride in it. However, it's not the real experience most people would associate with college.

What does that all mean
It means Alabama is a helluva lot bigger than I imagined. I thought it was much lower.

Ole Miss is still the largest university in the state though.

They said last year that they will hold our enrollment at 28,000 students in 2015 or 2016.
They said a couple of years ago they would hold it at 25,000 students, which it will pass this fall. It seems to be a moving target. The same kind of money whores seem to be running several SEC schools.

"Actual college experience"--wtf are you talking about?
Just as much of a college experience at A&M as any other large school.

Joking aside, they expanded enrollment without increasing the number of faculty.

I'd only been to college station once, and it didn't seem like it was a situation with a high density of people all in the same place for the same reason. Like someone said, it was spread out and it felt corporate.
Great cities, towns, colleges, spaces, are really built by the chance meetings you have with people that develop conversations and friendships that you can grow. Hell, downtown revitalizations are being built on that concept alone.
I didn't feel that possibility on the campus of aTm. I could be wrong.
Every aTm alum I've met in the non-sports world has been cool, but they've been pretty unexcited about their experience. They love being an Aggie, and they're proud to let you know, but it never develops into a conversation at all. Just my personal experience.

Agree with a lot of that. Texas has the same size enrollment, but the campus is developed in way that makes it feel more like a "place". A&M feels random and corporate to me, but I've only had the tour three or four times.

It's a big campus, sure, but there's a ton of people, obviously. Hence the high enrollment.

You are absolutely wrong on that one. The scope for chance meetings developing into convos/friendships at A&M is literally endless. So many different circles that people run in intersect all the time on campus. Just because it's a large space doesn't mean people are cordoned off from each other. I'd posit that that's why the Aggie family is so tight-knit. There's always someone new to meet and develop a bond with.

I literally don't know what to say to this. I'm biased, sure, but every Ag I've ever talked to enjoyed their experience immensely.

I agree. To me A&M felt more like a corporate campus than a college campus.

Hold up. Texas' campus is difficult to distinguish from Austin proper most of the time. A&M is it's own little city.
A&M has always felt like more of a "place" to me than texas' campus for sure.

Ya think?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. There's no doubt my experiences at A&M were a lot different than those of a normal college student anywhere else, but I don't see that as a bad thing and I absolutely had plenty of "college experiences", though probably not what you'd consider normal. On the other hand, I honestly have no idea what an Aggie civilian thinks about his/her time at A&M, though, and you may have a point buried in there somewhere.

These two kind of surprised me. Figured they would both be larger.
Also didn't expect Ole Miss to be so small. For some reason I thought they would be more around 25k.
Florida and A&M fans do you think your school will keep growing? 50k is already an impressive amount of students. Do you think they will go to 60 or 70 thousand?

WestCoastAg is a nonreg.
So is my little brother who's a senior this fall. Kid loves A&M just as much as I do.

We can laugh at Vandy for a lot of reasons, but their enrollment is not one of them. They turn away more applications than they accept. Theys a real book lurnin' school.
