Don't sleep on bringing Vanderbilt vs Ole Miss back.

Rivalry Weekend Scene 1: Arkansas-Texas LSU-Texas A&M Missouri-Oklahoma
Texas and A&M will undoubtedly play on rivalry week. Zero doubt
quote:
Rivalry Weekend Scene 2: Arkansas-Missouri LSU-None (Tulane?) Texas-Texas A&M
Possible, but unlikely. There is no benefit to LSU renewing the rivalry with Tulane.

Rivalry Weekend Scene 3:
Arkansas-LSU (non-conference)
Missouri-Oklahoma
Texas-Texas A&M
Wtf
As I mentioned earlier, the best solution to the LSU-rivalry week problem is making Arkansas and LSU permanent opponents. Oklahoma can play Missouri on Rivalry week.
Ole Miss will be LSU’s 2nd permanent and the 3rd is up in the air.

Switch Arkansas's rivalry week opponent to LSU and switch Missouri's to Oklahoma.
Certainly possible. The counterpoint which may be important to schedulers is doing that creates two meh matchups (from a national perspective) whereas you could at least get one higher end matchup with LSU-OU. Still even that one will pale in comparison to other matchups from rivalry week. At least at first or when both teams have had a good season and especially when the game has something on the line.

100% Likely to Play Annually: 1. Auburn vs Alabama 4. Ole Miss vs Mississippi State 7. Texas vs Texas A&M
Somewhere between 50% and 99% likely to Play Annually: 9.Tennessee vs Vanderbilt
Why have only 3 of the 4 SAME STATE SCHOOLS play annually?

Under the new scheduling format every SEC team will play each other across 2 seasons. This will create the most balanced scheduling the SEC has ever had. Having 6 rotational games negates the need to assign permanent opponents for the purpose of “creating higher-end matchups”. The Big matchups will happen regardless. The purpose of 3 permanent opponents is to preserve traditional rivalries and provide consistency in rivalry week scheduling.

Copied from above. I think this is how it will shake out exactly.

You say all this but you still can't give a final schedule. Go ahead try to do all 16 teams to include Rivalry Week. It ain't easy. There will always be some compromises and missed old rivalries.

Wont happen. The 3 teams chosen for LSU must solve this problem:
So who does LSU play the last week of the season? Cant be one of those 3 teams. Ole Miss plays Miss St, A&M plays Texas, and Florida plays FSU.
Rivalry week cant be a rotational SEC game for LSU. Everyone else (except Oklahoma) has a permanent opponent on rivalry week.
It also cant be a non-conference game (unless we renew the Tulane rivalry). It’s not easy to find a team thats open on rivalry week.

Dude, you keep talking, can't this and can't that. Give us your lineup or STFU.

There are many possible schedules that will work. The third team for LSU could be A&M, Florida, or even Alabama or Auburn. That decision will depend on which team has a slot open after other permanent games are selected.
Im just pointing out a glaring problem that must be resolved with the 3 permanent teams chosen for LSU. LSU needs a permanent opponent for rivalry week. The SEC cares a lot more about fixing that than preserving 2nd rate rivalries for LSU. As they should

Give it a shot. You're a UVA grad. What do you have to lose?

quote:Exactly. The worst case scenario is you play one of your big rivals every other year, for those schools who have more than 3 legitimate big time historical rivalries. Most schools don't so it doesn't matter.

There's a pretty clear path here to keep everyone happy.

The easy solution is to make rivalry weekend games non-conference game. But that is a good plans so stupid white men that run the SEC will not do that.

You’re not much of a problem solver, are you?
I’ve stated nothing but facts regarding factors and issues the SEC is undoubtedly must take into consideration.
As I’ve said multiple times, I believe Ole Miss and Arkansas are locks to be 2 of the 3 opponents for LSU. The third is a low priority for the SEC and will be decided by who else is left with a 3rd slot open. Best guess is A&M or Florida, but could possibly be Alabama or Auburn. Who LSU fans “want” to play as the 3rd is irrelevant.

This makes the most sense for Rivalry week:
Arkansas-LSU
Missouri-Oklahoma
Texas-Texas A&M
MSU-Ole Miss
UT-Vandy
Bama-AU
FLA-FSU
USC-Clemson
UGA-Ga Tech
UK-Louisville
Arkansas-LSU
Missouri-Oklahoma
Texas-Texas A&M
MSU-Ole Miss
UT-Vandy
Bama-AU
FLA-FSU
USC-Clemson
UGA-Ga Tech
UK-Louisville

For the record, I prefer Tex, LSU, and Arky for our three. We have the most history with these.
Posted on 9/10/25 at 1:31 pm to AUTiger789
Why is East versus West a bad idea again? Simply adding Texas to one side, and Oklahoma to the other side?
Posted on 9/10/25 at 1:47 pm to MosesRAB93
Actually, this makes the most sense for Rivalry week:
Arkansas-LSU
Missouri-Kansas
Oklahoma-Oklahoma State
Texas-Texas A&M
MSU-Ole Miss
UT-Vandy
Bama-AU
FLA-FSU
USC-Clemson
UGA-Ga Tech
UK-Louisville
5 conference games, 6 non-conference games.
Arkansas-LSU
Missouri-Kansas
Oklahoma-Oklahoma State
Texas-Texas A&M
MSU-Ole Miss
UT-Vandy
Bama-AU
FLA-FSU
USC-Clemson
UGA-Ga Tech
UK-Louisville
5 conference games, 6 non-conference games.
