3 Peyton Manning would occupy this spot if he wasn’t completely robbed out of the HT. I’m putting him on here anyway since he should have won it that year.
4 Henry
5 Smith

That just tells you about the pool of Heisman prospects in a given year

Which is why there were two other criteria i used to offset whether they just dominated a weak class. Regardless, it’s subjective.

(Sullivan would be 6th. Not just because he was a great college player...........he was an even better human being)

If voting wasn't final until after the end of the season, as it is today...Sullivan wouldn't have won. Getting his arse whipped in the Iron Bowl while Marinaro was sitting on his couch would have given enough voters reason to give it to Ed.

How'd he do in his Heisman moment in the Iron Bowl?

Oh, that's right...voting was already over and Sullivan was announced the winner on Thanksgiving night two nights earlier.

Good thing for Pat.

Yes.

But we're also talking about the Pat Sullivan who, when given a chance to have his team play for a national championship after winning the Heisman, totally embarrassed himself on national television against his arch-rival. It was #3 vs. #5, Auburn had a shot to play #1 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl if they won, but got absolutely blown away at Legion Field.

He was undefeated against Bama at the time he won the Heisman and it absolutely eats you up inside. Sad it's been 50 years bro, get over it already

Corona year heisman is the most irrelevant. Doesn’t really mean much when half the country is sitting out and half the country played half a season in empty stadiums.

Oh, I lose sleep every night because of it. Granted, this all happened roughly 16-20 years before I was even born.

Why do people keep looking at the Heisman like a career achievement trophy?

I would pick H. Walker.

On a semi-related note Barry Switzer posted this last night about Billy Sims:

1979 on Thursday before we played unbeaten Nebraska, allowing only 67yds per game, I asked him if he had one more in him last home game. He looked at me “I saved best for last”1st carry 68 yd TD run call back! Had 247 on 28 carries! NU as team 234! He should’ve had two Heisman’s

Ask AJ McCarron.

Seriously, he finished higher in the Heisman than Tre Mason in 2013, and why?

Well, he didn't win it those years, did he?

I mean, seriously...what's that got to do with winning the Heisman? What are you, 12 years old?

The fact remains that the year Sullivan allegedly was the best player in college football, he got his arse whipped his last two games.

Derrick Henry always gets undersold. If you're talking a Heisman season 2200 and 5.6 YPC in the SEC speaks for itself.
I mean Fournette rushed for almost 5.8 ypc that same year in the SEC, and Henry didn't even have to go against the Bama D.

Dude it was a gimmick that took everyone a few years to figure out. AJ maybe shouldn't have been second, but it wasn't because Mason was behind him.

I don't know? I never felt he deserved 2nd place, at least in 2013. Maybe in 2012, when he didn't even get into the top 10 despite leading in passer rating with an absurd 10 to 1 TD to INT ratio (30 to 3). Shouldn't have won that year either (that was Manziel), but if there was a year he deserved a trip to New York, it was that one.

As for Tre Mason, remember that nearly 500 of his 1816 yards (and 5 of his 23 TDs) came during the post season. So I imagine his numbers, while good, were probably not eyepopping.
Also that the two really big games that featured amazing moments (Georgia and Alabama) for Auburn that year did not feature Tre is a "Heisman" moment - that would be Ricardo Louis and Chris Lynn Davis Jr.

I imagine if either of them had really good numbers up to that point, they would have been a shoe-in to get to New York.
