Random idea for CFP

Off-season thread since I'm an Arky fan. 6 teams. The winner of the championship game from each P5 conference makes it. 5 slots filled, you have representation from each of the main conferences so ratings/interest is going to be solid. The 6th team in is whoever has the best resume from a non P5 conference, this way you don't have the whining from the cinderella team that always think they should be in.
Thoughts? Faults? I think it cuts down on the constant disagreement about who has the better resume out of multiple teams, strength of schedule, favoritism, politics, etc..

That's what I've wanted for awhile. People will bitch about the idea for some unknown reason though

Sounds great until a 3 or 4 loss conference champ gets in.

Man what a good idea. Here's another random idea: maybe the Big 12 should have a championship game!

*Actually just being a smartass, I totally agree with your idea. I think the current setup deemphasizes the importance of conference games.

Not sure if I'm just getting woosh'd here, but they do have a championship game now

Thought they had one now?

There should be a P5 playoff and a G5 playoff. All 5 P5 conference champs automatically in and 3 at large to get the best of the rest. Same setup for the G5.

If you aren't the best team in your conference, why are you in the playoffs?
It continues to baffle me that so many people are ok with that

I remember how boring every NCAA playoff is until the final four.

I would go with 8 teams, p5 + top 3 rated non-p5 camps/independents.
Make it a true tournament of champions.
Otherwise, yes, conference champions are irrelevant which takes away from college football tradition.

So put in a G6 team just for the sake of doing so and watch them get blown out every year instead of a P5 team that might actually deserve it? Why not the conference winners and then the 6th team can be whichever is most deserving? I never understood why people are just dying for a 'Cinderella' even when you have to basically rig the system to make it happen. Not really a Cinderella then, is it?

I've been wanting to see the 5 p5 champions in the playoffs for awhile. Let the playoff teams be decided on the field, not in a board room by a committee.
Ideally there would only be 4 power conferences and you'd take those champs.

You mean other than the championship game they now have?

I'm not seeing these teams getting blown out every year in their bowl games against top P5 teams. Western Michigan lost by 8 to a team that will may be in the playoffs this year, Houston over FSU in 2015, Boise St over AZ in 2014, UCF over Baylor in 2013..

4 conferences with 2 divisions of 8. That's 64 teams which covers anyone with a remote chance of winning it all.
Win your division, win your conference = get in.
Problem is that out of division or out of conference games matter less. So you need to have more than 4 teams in the playoffs. Make it 8 total and reduce the season by one game. No one needs to play cupcakes anymore. The four atlarge teams can be picked with a formula. With points assigned for: overall record + OOC record weighted by who you played + other objective points. Get rid of voting and ranking.
Also, there should be relegation. End up last place in your conference? You get relegated.
