At this point let's just call it what it is...quitting.

I want to know what jackhole agent started the cop-out pitch that the regular season would have usually have ended last weekend so players needed to start opting out to start prepping for the draft now. I just worry that this will become the norm for draft eligible players going forward - play enough games where players can be convinced they've done all they need to do on the field, then quit unless their team is still in the CFP picture. This trend of not finishing out a season, including bowl games IMO, needs to stop. That, or the college football model is going to have to make some serious changes.
I also worry about players starting to test the waters of skipping entire seasons going forward. We first started hearing these arguments with Clowney several years ago. Obviously there won't be as many players at that elite level willing to try, but can you imagine a world where the majority of your blue chip, star players only give you 2 years with the program before leaving? I think COVID presented a really unique opportunity for NFL execs to see whether skipping an entire season of college football hurts players before the get to the league. If college football becomes more like college basketball in that regard, everyone is going to have to change the way they recruit because it would be impossible to sustain a football program if you put all your eggs into the elite players who aren't going to stick around past their 2nd seasons.

It already has, and will get worse

There is no question it will be. And having to think "we play them late in the season, so how many players will have opted out at that point" will be a common thought. Mostly for teams that aren't competing for the title.

Catalon is a dirty player, and a lot of it comes from lack of coaching.
He got flagged for hitting a dude with his hip/elbow, not sure what else he could have been coached to do in that situation

Our best player is suspended due to stupid targeting rules.
Sucks the 4th best safety in that game won’t be able to see the field. A real bummer

Yep, college football coaches are going to deal with a lot of the same types of head aches college baseball coaches do trying to manage a roster. Not to mention, one would think redshirts will be completely useless. If you know your elite players are leaving after 2 years, you're going to need to get the rest of your players ready to play sooner. Having those non blue-chip players sit out for a redshirt year may just not be an option anymore.

Boyd battled with a leg injury all year. Looked like he lost a step. Should've taken his chances in last year's draft even though I suspect he was a 6th rounder at best.

Treylon Smith runs like Fred Talley.

This will continue and get worse unless NFL and individual teams starts to publicly lowering grades when players opt out. Once they start saying “shows negative character traits” or however they wish to label it, you’ll see it start to diminish. I don’t expect that to happen though.

Why would an NFL team care if players opt out of a meaningless season?

No season is meaningless.

I think we all know you’re the 2nd biggest Mizzou homer on this board but you might be giving Lefty a serious run for his money with a hot take like this.

That's a significant Rakeem Void at RB for the ol' piglets.
How's that RB depth??? Maybe put McFadden's name on a dummy and try that again like the 2008 Cotton Bowl? It should do about the same as McFadden did that beautiful day in Dallas. Oh...that sound you'll hear is a Mizzou RB setting another rushing record like Tony Temple did. AR-kansas still don't know what hit 'em.
