Why stop with football. Imagine how many more strikeouts and no-hitters we could have if we would allow the pitcher to throw the ball before the batter got into the box.

If they are seriously trying to pass this in the interest of player safety there needs to be hard data to support it.
I've never seen any, and I have a feeling I won't.

Why would it be in the interest of player safety if the rule doesn't apply for the last two minutes of each half?
This is a desperate attempt to slow down the hurry up no huddle
The same offense that gave saban fits and took 10 years off his life

The thing I cant stand about those supporting the rule is the hiding behind the narrative of"injury and safety". What a complete load of bull shite. Its pussy shite. If they want to argue a change because of an unfair competitive advantage then stand of the merits of that argument and make your case. This pussy shite that Bert and Saban are hiding behind is laughable. So are those blindly defending them.
Excellent post.

Anyone that is seriously defending saban and Bert are intellectually dishonest
Of course Bama fans want this passed.
They open the season against WVU, don't they? A HUNH.
They scared of losing the opener

I guess if anyone cared what second place had to say, maybe they would have invited Gus to the discussion.

Wow you are incredibly pathetic
Auburn beat Alabama in 2013

Too bad for the SEC, Gus was working towards next season while his competition was in meetings...not smart.

Really? The option was an innovative strategy that at first, defenses weren't at all comfortable with defending
The option still gives teams fits from time to time. Not sure your logic here.

NOT walking slowly up to the line, and reading defenses ala AJ McCarron, letting them read you, then snapping the ball after standing there for 20 seconds...it's been uncomfortable for traditional teams.
What? ala AJ , ala Manning , ala Breez , ala Brady...on and on
It's football. It takes a hell of a lot more wits & strategy for a qb to go to the line, read the defense, and get the O in the right set than it does to rush to the line to catch the defense off guard. Even when these High school offensive teams don't go up-tempo, they read cards from the sideline to get the play. Sorry for having Qb's with brains?

Delay of game penalty for starting to soon.

Soon no more games in the rain

Brady and Manning move extremely fast very often.
Hell, Belicheck even went to Oregon to learn Chip Kelly's offense to integrate it into NEs

Srsly?
Most all of these snap the ball with under 5 on the play clock the majority of snaps.

Saban to UT is still on, right?

I have to admit as an LSU fan I'm enjoying all of this from two angles.
All of these so-called genius play-callers are afraid of getting exposed for what they really are. (High School Prep Coaching wannabe legends)
Very very few of them are innovators and are just copycats running the HUHN because it obviously gives them an advantage over more talented teams. They even admit this openly.
Saban is panicking because he realizes the game is passing him by. Like so many old farts, he would rather not have to adapt to changes at this stage of his career. He has such an advantage with talent and his ability to out-coach most of these frauds if they will let him set up his defense.
The reason most LSU fans don't really care about the rules is because of the confidence we have in the coaching staff. Les and Chief haven't whined about the HUHN and have tried to adapt to these changes. Mostly successfully I might add.

From a CFN article on this rule change:
Meanwhile, the NFL is going warp speed ... and they aren't changing rules. It wasn't two years ago that the Denver Broncos played the New England Patriots and said that they'd never seen the speed the Patriots ran plays at ... so they mimic'd it. Bill Belichick took a pilgrimage to Chip Kelly land in Eugene to figure out the finer points of the warp speed offense.
Chip Kelly is now in the NFL, having just taken a previously last place team to a division title in his first year.
Folks, it's not getting slower ... it's getting faster ... and in the NFL, you get no window to substitute. If the offense wants to go, you roll with what you have on you. Elite guys like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning often have plays called before they even snap the ball on the current play. This is the mindset college players are entering after leaving one where they're told ... heeey big fella, slow down

If I were a HUNH offensive-minded head coach I would simply propose a rule next year to have all offensive linemen wearing boxing gloves.
The holding that goes on in the trenches is a joke. You take fatass OL that can only neutralize more athletic DL by committing a penalty on every snap. Yet it rarely gets called. Alabama rarely gets called for holding, but then when the refs do start calling it like in the bowl game, they end up giving up 7 sacks.
See how well Saban likes that rule change next season.

Coaching is a brotherhood and a noble profession. I would hope there are not those in our business who would sneak behind everyone else's back and try to get something passed without the others in the profession having the opportunity to be heard. It's a reaction to the success of Auburn and Texas A&M, clearly," he said. "So rather than innovate defensively and re-spawn defensively, it's like -- and this is the lowest level of bureaucracy that exists in football - it's like rather than adapt our teams or coach our teams, what we're going to try to do instead is invent a rule." — Mike Leach
I love Mike Leach.
