re: Now housing is a human right??
Posted by Terry the Tiger on 4/15/18 at 12:55 pm
If you read the article, almost all of the most unaffordable cities have land use REGULATION.
I remember seeing a piece on London. All of the new buildings being built in London are bought by the Chinese, Japanese, Arabs, etc. as investments and never occupied. As a result, the citizens of London are being forced to move far out of the city. In addition, the lack of places to live then drives the housing costs up even more.
If cities love regulation so much, maybe they would put laws on the books forcing buildings to be some minimum percentage of occupation or face huge fines.
Many of the top cities were in California. That is just one of the reasons that people are fleeing from California in droves.

Austin, Houston and Dallas are the real Texas, and much like the rest of America, that is, mainstream and normal.
The rest of the state seems to pride itself on not having changed since the 1950s.
So if Austin whose slogan is “Keep Austin Weird” is “mainstream and normal”, then maybe you are the one not normal.
And metropolitan Dallas and Houston areas are what they are due to the people that live in the suburbs and not because of those in the city limits.
I love how you believe that concentrated areas of poor and illiterate blacks and Hispanics are considered “mainstream and normal”.

re: Hilliard is/will be our best pitcher since Nola

Hilliard needs to develop an out pitch for lefties. His curve breaks down and in on lefties which is generally their sweet spot (see HR allowed last night).
He is doing extremely well now, but I think the book is getting out on him. Teams are figuring him out a little more now. As a result, batters are being more patient and he is getting behind a lot lately and having to throw his fastball when they are expecting it.

Whoa. Let’s settle down.
Nice selective editing. He said “in terms of wins” and Poche had more wins. Nothing to argue there.

The oceans and the inhabitants being killed by this plastic really don’t care about the per capita basis.
Sea Turtle: China sure is dumping a lot of garbage in our home.
Shark: But it really isn’t so bad when you consider all the people it has.
Sea Turtle: If it is dumped by 1 person or 1 billion people, it is still the same amount of garbage to us.

I really don't think this is as prevalent as you think it is, but it definitely still happens. Most people under 40 generally give zero fricks what color the family moves in, as long as they are clean cut. A white guy with neck tattoos is going to get more whispers than the black guy that works as an accountant.
I don’t mind what race my neighbors are as long as they are respectful of me and my property and have pride in theirs.
I am white. I have several black neighbors, a couple of Asian families, and Hispanic families that live around me. None of them give me any trouble. But one white guy down the street allows his big dogs to roam free, and they always shite in my yard. It pisses me off.

If you watched the video from these missile launches, they traveled beyond the horizon without ever seeing an explosion.

I agree. We could actually save money by launching illegal aliens instead.

I never knew Jackson had a zoo. When I heard “Jackson Zoo” I just assumed it was a reference to the city itself.

I mean it was live so I don’t have a link. But either the Syrian ambassador was either rambling on or the translator was the worst translator of all time. He did say that the Cold War was back.
It was a lot of both. The Syrian Ambassador was rambling and the translator sounded like he was guessing at times.
re: Harvard: guns were used for self defense in less than 1% of crimes
Posted by Terry the Tiger on 4/14/18 at 9:25 am
I love these stories. There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.
The source of that article said that less than 1% of people used a gun as self defense in nonfatal crimes. It lists over 470k nonfatal crimes. So that 1% is about 4,700 times that people claimed self defense. Well guess what? That number is just less than half the number of homicides each year ~12,000. If the number of homocides is such a big deal, then the number of times self defense was reported is a big deal too.
And of course, self defense is not going to be reported for most non fatal crimes. How many times is there a man-on-man confrontation in most crimes. How is someone going to use self defense when his car is stolen while he is at work? How is someone going to use self defense when someone vandalizes a building? How is someone going to use a gun for self defense when someone does insider trading?
That statistic is the same typical bullshite statistic.
I wonder why the author did not reference this statistic from the source. Those who committed crimes bought their guns from a flea market or gun show only 2% of the time and 40% of them got their guns ILLEGALLY. That statistic is what the stricter gun control legislation people refuse to understand. Criminals don’t follow the law!

Yep, you’re one of the triggered ones.
Old people are incapable of triggering young people. We are in the prime of our lives...traveling, making tons of money, young women...Don't worry about us old man.
Making tons of money? You are the exception, if that is the case. 43% of men under the age of 35 still live with their parents! If you all are making so much money, then move the frick out on your own.
I am a Gen Xer, but I was taught to respect my elders. Your fricking generation disrespects the same people keeping a roof over your head.
Tell me again about the prime of your lives. A large percentage of black males will never see the age of 25. If they do see mid-age, most of them will see it behind bars. Women no longer want to marry men because the guys cannot support themselves, much less a woman. Sexually, women would prefer a dildo or another woman. Things are so good for your generation that people change genders and sexual orientation in hopes that someone will like them. When they don't, they kill themselves.

So is President Trump supposed to wait for a Congressional vote when Russia or North Korea launches nuclear weapons at us? We have 2,000 troops in Syria. Maybe he was trying to protect those troops from a possible chemical attack.

I would have asked Booker a clarification question: “Just so that I understand your line of questioning, are you inviting me back to your place after this hearing?”

Last time that I checked, they were on the Pacific Ocean. They need to spend more time making large-scale desalinization plants more economical.
