Quinn Ewers...What’s the Rants analysis of this kid?

What’s the Rants analysis of this kid? I’ve been watching the Georgia tape, Michigan Tape, Washington Tape, Alabama, Oklahoma, etc. I’m not sure what to make of him. I remember watching the LSU and USC season opener this year and the QB play was so much more dynamic than anything I’ve seen at Texas in a minute. Nussmeier & Moss were just slinging it with free rushers in their face.

Dude already opted out of his senior HS season for a paycheck. That’s all.

I laughed.
To answer the question, he was playing like a 3rd year player with confidence before he got hurt. After he's gotten hurt, he's playing without confidence and has reverted to bad footwork tendencies.

All I know is Ewers got a ton of NIL money, which unfortunately put Heisman pressure on him

You have come to the right place Sark,
When he is selfie, he is above average when he is hurt he is not
He’s done nothing in his career to make anybody objectively say he is “great” though, he’s won the games against weak competition that an above average quarterback would win

Think he’s a good but not great college QB. Not dynamic passer. Not great athlete. Has made some beautiful throws but also looks shaken under pressure. Good, not great.
Worse QBs have won championships but they had to have a dynamic cast around them.

The most over-rated QB in the land BY FAR.
That's honest. (and kind)
ESPN and the national media are so far up Texas backside and y'all don't even realize.
They can tilt the narrative, the voting, the coverage. but then when you actually see the product under test, y'all wonder "what went wrong".
Nothing!

Inconsistent and in his own head.
One game he's yelling his head off on the sideline "IM frickIIINGG HIIIIIIIM" when he's winning then he's got eyes the size of the 40 acres when he gets challenged.
To be fair to him, he's got some factors going against him.
The pressure of unrealistic expectations from the rich, entitled fanbase of Texas and having a Manning as his backup quarterback have to be tough to navigate. You've now got everyone from radio hosts to boosters shouting for Manning to have special packages in place for him (even though he fared no better against GA than Ewers.)
Also he is still hurt and that is evident in his play.

He says he doesn't need a back-up when patrolling Fansville.

Quarterbacks in his position have to make a bunch of business decisions in the pocket. Do I stand tall in the pocket when I feel pressure and stay with my reads, or do I check it down real quick or pretend like I'm about to scramble and not get hit?
Ewers doesn't appear to be standing tall in the pocket often enough. Carson Beck is doing the same shite this season. Way more reluctant to deliver the ball down field and risk getting hit than he was last season.
It's tough.

It's above my pay grade, but it didn't seem like he was the problem for Texas against Georgia to me.

Before he went down with the abdomen thing he was stepping up into the pocket, (pressure or no pressure) seeing all his open receivers and delivering the ball to one of them. Sure most of them were check downs to RB's or TE's, but he was also taking downfield shots when they opened up.
He simply hasn't been the same QB since he came back from his time off. Luckily bloU sucks so it didn't make much difference in that game, but Georgia exposed us, and not just Quinn...our line has obviously been reading their own press and thought all they had to do was show up and nobody would touch Quinn. Not all of it was O-line though, we had missed assignments in Max protect...as in RB's and TE's missing blitzers.

As bad as it was , it was a 30-22 game if he didn't panic.

He can’t afford a similar performance in Nashville. Something tells me possessions will be at a premium.

The only bad QB play I saw was on the side of Georgia, and they still kicked the frick outta you.

- he's a great kid
- he's not soft, but he's not a great competitor either - he's just not
- he has a golden arm and he's banking (no pun intended) on making big bucks in the NFL
- I've compared him in the past to Jeff George, but I think he's a better person than Jeff George, who just always seemed like a whiner
- Ewers progression reads are amazing at times, but mostly only on the short game
- he seems to be a great people person and will become a great TV analyst at some point later
- maybe he will run for Congress, and I would vote for him
