I find that the posters on TD and SECR that call others "an idiot" or "this is the dumbest post I have ever seen" are mostly the ones that are idiots.

HOW can you determine a true champ if they don’t play?
Hince why we need pods/divisions & NOT this 1 big group idea with unnecessary extra tie-breakers due to lack of common opponents!

So giving UGA, Kentucky, SC, & Florida only 1 game to personally schedule depending where GT, Louisville, Clemson, & FSU wind up?

It sucks its this way but until they figure out a better reward for conference winners, there just isn't a point to winning it
Easy solution:
The Natty p/o is played ONLY WITH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

I bet the conference would like to make a 4-team conference tournament for football to make money on two semi-final conference games.
NO because that gives the 3rd & 4th ranked teams the possibility of winning the conference.
(Or E2 & W2 with divisions.)

If they had stuck with the 4 team format instead of expanding to 12, then 1/2 of the teams in it would have been SEC (Texas & Georgia).
But is that a fair format where 1/2 came from one group?

Seems most agree with what I believed. The SEC championship game really doesn’t really provide the SEC as a whole with any benefit. Crowning a sec champion could be as simple as who has the best conference record and is the highest ranked at the end of the regular season. The cons against the game are many…it obviously will hurt the ranking of at least the loser, possibly knocking them out of the playoffs, and with an upset destroy the seeding of possibly the best SEC team. Late season injuries to key players for a basically unimportant game are also a probability. The conference would be better served money wise, getting as many teams as possible in the playoffs, at the best seedings and bowls possible, rather saddling the loser of the SEC championship with another loss or upsetting the best SEC team that may have key players needing the rest. If you’re a Texas, LSU, Florida Georgia or Bama, for instance and Manning, Nuss and Lagway and others are banged up…why would you want to play the SEC championship if you’re in the hunt for a Natty? The lower end members of the SEC benefit from higher shared payouts at the better bowls in the playoffs. The “it’s tradition “ is a useless argument in the new college football business. You think any single Lamborghini player at Texas could give a rat’s arse about a traditional game of a conference they weren’t even in 24 months ago. Lol. Time to abolish the game for the good of the conference.

That’s a very bad idea…you really think a conference U.S.A. or Mountain West for example should get in the playoffs ahead of the number 2 SEC team? Naaah

It’s a pointless games. Besides it’s just a home game when Georgia is playing.

You can’t argue that a conf. champ winning a Natty would be more accepted than a 2nd (or lower) placed team.

Yeah why not? Hell let's just disband the SEC, Big10, etc and reorganize along say time zones into some sort of minor league for the NFL
Posted on 7/31/25 at 8:10 pm to Jster15
It's time to go back to 10 teams and to play a nine game schedule.

You're right that 3 or 4 could win it, but no matter how dumb it seems, two things
1) SEC wants more money
2) It aligns more closely with other team sports that have a full conference tournament

It's a shame the SEC got greedy in the early 90s. It would still be the best CFB conference without the 6 additions.

The more teams they allow in the playoffs, the tougher and meaner the attrition rate becomes. When does college football start addressing how many games we have to play?
Next year, it's 16 teams. How many rounds do we have to go to prove something? During the BCS, it made a lot more sense because there was a lot less attrition than what we are now facing. That money grab we lovingly know as the SECCG is looking like something I want no part of.

None of which affect ESPN. The game lives on.

Exactly...so, why would the SEC want to change that?

SIAP...
#1 and #2 are always gonna get in playoff...
How bout SECCG Saturday where we have 2 games?...
#3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 in SEC standings to seed top 4 in SEC...
No penalty for 1 and 2 and the winner of these 2 games solidify their SEC pecking order in the CFP rotation.
Would be a great Saturday tho...
