SEC chip is irrelevant at this point for the Horns, its Natty or bust and soon to stay like that just like Ohio State every year
Conference titles are always nice. Obviously natties are far more important but if we don't care about conference titles why do we even have a conference?

We don’t. We have media collectives.

ok then we can call it the "media collective" championship. If we don't care about them then we might as well do away with them and just create divisions like the NFL.
I would hate that but that seems to be what you are looking for.

Personally I enjoy the tradition of the SECCG and would be disappointed if it was removed from the schedule.
The same goes for the SEC baseball tournament - it's a great experience for college baseball fans.

Not sure, its just a distraction and trap game in my eyes from what we want to achieve every year if things keep going like this

I believe it’s time to get rid of the SEC championship game. In the era of the college football playoffs, that game does nothing but hurt the SEC. Thoughts?
I remember hearing that before...but I can't remember when. Maybe it was:
- 1992 when they said that going to a 12 team conference and adding divisions with a championship game would end the SEC's chances at ever winning a NC again in football.
In the 32 years leading up to the 1992 SEC Expansion, the SEC had won 8 National Champions (not all were consensus champions). In the 32 years since the 1992 SEC Expansion, the SEC has won 17 (all but 1 were consensus). So, my first thought would be...they were wrong because 17>8.
Then I heard it again when the SEC added aTm and MIZZOU in 2012. The SEC is getting too competitive and the added teams will eliminate the chance for NCs...so they won't be nearly as successful as they were before and the SEC CG must be eliminated. So, in the 12 seasons leading up to this expansion the SEC won 7 NCs (one was not consensus). In the 12 seasons since, the SEC has won 7 (all consensus). So, my thoughts on that are, 7=7, and talk of implosion were not sound.
Yes, the SEC did not win a NC in the 1 season since the most recent expansion. Of the 12 teams that made the tournament, 3 were from the SEC. If they had stuck with the 4 team format instead of expanding to 12, then 1/2 of the teams in it would have been SEC (Texas & Georgia). If you think about it, Clemson hit a 44 yard FG as time expired to avoid going to OT against SMU in the ACC CG. If that didn't happen and Clemson would have lost you would have had 4 in the playoff (Bama would have been in instead of Clemson).
I say that the hype surrounding the SEC CG being a negative towards conference opportunities is mere speculation, which has not been accurate thus far.

As long as people watch it - it stays.
This is purely a game of product and consumer. Strategical thinking that may or may not benefit its participants is of no consequence.
ESPN will get rid of the SECCG when they are damn good and ready. And they aren't. Because we consume it.

Dr Pepper is about to ban you. It will never happen and should not, but do you know how much money that game generates, you are an idiot.

Not that I necessarily disagree. I just hate to see it. Conferences should matter as should winning a prestigious conference title. Obviously natties matter a LOT more but I'd hate to see the conference games become mostly meaningless, even if that's where we are headed.

True. At the end of the day, it's a football game featuring good teams from the best conference. Considering how short the season is, I don't see anyone giving up that marquee game.

Yeah, i agree with you but i just think were too distracted by conference titles, we need big picture thought more, weve been shooting for big 12 titles for years when now we gotta set the bar higher and be thinking natties every year like ohio st. Were selling ourselves short bug like you said they are sweet along the way.

There’s nothing that replicates the carnage of a big time SEC matchup. Georgia losing Beck changed the playoff picture big time. Had they not played it they’d have gotten an easy path with their starting QB still healthy

It actually ended up hurting Georgia since Beck got injured in the game
I mean, Beck looked fairly mediocre throughout the season. I’m not sure a healthy Beck would’ve moved the needle at all.

I mean, considering his replacement could only manage 10 points against ND, I'd assume he would have been a huge upgrade.

What happens to the loser of the SECCG? They go to the playoffs, too.
Georgia was physically beat to a pulp after surviving Texas in the SECG. They never really recovered in the playoffs.
Meanwhile Ohio State came dancing in with bells on.
And then physically beat Tennessee to a pulp, then physically beat Oregon to a pulp, then physically beat Texas to a pulp, then physically beat ND to a pulp.
How many weeks does it take to get over the SECCG? UGA had like 22 days between games. Come on people

Maybe, Beck managed 10 points against Ole Miss. I’m not saying Stockton is good, I’m saying Beck didn’t play well last year.

What other poster said. Texas played the entire bottom 7 of the SEC, and Georgia. The SEC championship game straightens out teams that had a weak SOS because they auto have to play the other best team.
Missou 1st season in the SEC was like that too. They played a weak schedule, then got blown out by Bama and Auburn by like 40 points in the SECG, so I say keep it.
