Jalen Hurts is not a good reference. Is he is or is he ain't coming back next year. Hurts and Fields both is in the same situation sitting one year on the pine.

He didn't have to do that, though. He had an available redshirt year. Leaving right after Tua was named starter or leaving at the end of the year was no different. He stuck around to get better under Enos, to compete and because he wanted to be here.
It was the best business decision. It was the only way he'd be able to play without sitting out a season and get a degree.
Put it this way. If this were about loyalty, which it obviously isn't, he'd stay on the roster next year. I'll bet anyone dumb enough 10 to 1 that doesn't happen.

Yea, but you are working under the notion that kids are robots and being demoted after going 26-2 and being 1 minute away from a national title is just a normal thing.
Most kids aren't going to take a demotion and playing in garbage time with the resume Jalen had solely to play in a few games. They are going to leave immediately and start looking at other options.

See above. It would be silly to argue it was solely about "loyalty" as the world is not black and white. But it certainly was partially about loyalty - to his teammates, friends and the program. There's no doubt about that. His decision to prepare like the starter, be mentally and emotionally engaged with this team the way he has been, etc after being demoted...........that was a choice.

Not even close to the same situation. One was a 17 year old true freshman showing up on a team with an established starter and the other was a 2 year starter whose resume was something out of a Hollywood script.
Fields even has a clear path to starting in 2020, he just didn't want to wait (which is fine, whatever).

Dude, it would have been immature, spiteful, and stupid for Jalen to leave. He'd have been hurting himself just to hurt the team.
No matter what you guys want the mythology to be, the one and only loyalty test is this year. If he stays, it's loyalty. If he goes it's business.
What do you wanna bet he leaves?

Can you name one instance where a QB sacrificed and stayed for no other reason than team loyalty and it worked out for him?
I'm either really proud of you for setting a good hook that worked or really ashamed of you for actually writing this. Problem is, I'm not sure where you'd be going with the hook or what you'd be trying to say. So I'm leaning toward ashamed.

Hurts has already applied for graduate school at the University.

After losing the starting job before the season started? Are you serious? It would have been totally normal and understandable. Kelly Bryant did it during the season and nobody batted an eye, it would have been exactly the same (and he would have just redshirted this year and lost nothing).

We'll promote whatever myth we want - Jalen Hurts stayed invested in the program and his preparation while going through what was probably the hardest point of his life, where he easily could have stuck around and gone through the motions or left and started figuring out the next chapter in his life. He stalked the sidelines giving advice, worked with other guys before and after practice and worked his arse off to come back from an ugly injury when he did not have to AT ALL. And he was rewarded with an opportunity to show his improvement and he did it on the biggest stage.
Your damn right we are going to love on that kid. Sorry it bothers you so much.

I hope for him that he leaves because I want him to go somewhere, play every down and set the world on fire. We all do.

He's projected to be a Top 2-3 QB in the 2020 draft class and probably a 1st round pick.
But yea, he's definitely not leaving early.

Truth is truth, man. The mythology people build around this specific issue is absolute idiocy.
Why do people expect these kids to do something they'd never do in the same situation? If you have an opportunity to put yourself and your family in a better position why would you not take it? It would be un-American not to.

If Fields can't beat out Fromm, hows he gonna be an NFL player?

Jalen Hurts stayed for one reason and one reason alone: He was graduating. He made a business decision.
Jalen Hurts isn't the only QB to have ever rode the bench without transferring and had things work out for him either. Plenty of guys have waited their turns, started only 1 or 2 seasons (or in Matt Cassell's case zero), and found success.

I'm still confused who you are preaching to here - none of us are melting over Justin Fields leaving. I have no problem with him moving on. It's his call.
I will say, he came to Georgia knowing Jake Fromm existed and was the starting QB. I'm sure he thought he'd show up and take the job, but he didn't and now he's giving up and running off. It's not the best look IMHO, and I'd want to know why he didn't stay and compete next year and want to be the starting QB in 2020/2021.
Much different than Hurts or Bryant who were overtaken by guys who showed up on campus and may leave to try and improve their stock for their last season.

He's improved a lot this year, and he's ready to start for another program. Make no mistake. He's leaving.

Dak Prescott inexplicably sat behind Tyler Russell until he earned his chance.

Now that I think about it Jalen could stay next year and be backup like this year and Tyson can play 4 games and redshirt.
That would work.
That would work.
