re: Question for Arkansas fans about Petrino

Petrino will be remembered as one of the best offensive coordinators when he retires.

But his career as a head coach is lacking. Probably because he focuses much of his time with offense and while fans became critical with his defenses, looking back those defenses were not as bad as the fans said they were. Much better than the trash from last year.

His coaching tree sucks. He would have his son be the QBs coach and have a nephew be the special teams coach. His brother was the WR coach and he was one of the best in the nation but he flamed out as a head coach. He was very much doing all the work.

Petrino had it made here but he screwed up. Rumors from that time period has revealed that Petrino was given certain guidelines to avoid a possible termination. Petrino scoffed and didn't believe he was going to be fired and didn't need to do anything. Arkansas gave him the pink slip and Petrino was in shock.

He got zero buyout money and stayed in an apartment in Rogers. He visited a place where my sister worked and she instantly recognized him, he was very nervous and barely said anything.

Would Petrino have flamed out?

Probably but he certainly would have done better than Bert and he wouldn't have any winless SEC seasons.

This right here. Petrino’s still one of the best at scripting opening series of plays to start the game but offense disappears in the second half when the opposition makes adjustments. Same thing happen with North Carolina in the second half.

Just out of curiosity I went to Arkansas site and looked at their scoring. I understand there are perceived beliefs involved, so I wanted to really get a better understanding.

For the 12 games of regular season
1st half = 247 pts. total = 20.6 pts/gm 1st half
2nd half = 138 pts. total = 11.5 pts/gm 2nd half

One thing that stuck out was that the opponent almost always had more drives and longer time of possession in the 2nd half. IMO the real issue was the Arkansas defense. They couldn't get stops and opponents always kept the ball away from Arkansas offense. TOP was always in opponents favor in 2nd half. To me, that means they could run on the defense, get 1st downs, and burn up the clock regardless if they scored. They'd play keep away from Petrino.

Guess, Arkansas should’ve hired Dan Mullen like some of our dumbass fan base wanted.Retread hire looking for a final big payday from the Arkansas athletic department. Cousin Eddie probably would’ve been a good fit since he just lost to Memphis too.

Don't try to talk sense to the idiots. There are some in the fanbase that are still clutching pearls over the wrecked Harley and are hellbent on blaming Petrino regardless of the billion metrics that prove he wasn't the issue. It was literally our best offense in 10 years.

The defense gave up 39.2 ppg in SEC games + Notre Dame (Yes, that's real), but it's Petrino's fault for not scoring 40 to win in their eyes.
