I understand OSU is live and well in the NCG picture. But they will need some 2nd place votes. Right now they aren't even a legit 6th place vote. What if some voters give them 4 and 5th place votes in the last poll because they lost to ISU? Won't they need EVEN MORE 2nd place votes then?

My understanding is they need 1/3 2nd place votes. But that is only if EVERY other vote they get is a 3rd place vote. With every 4th place vote or worse they will need more and more 2nd place votes.

I'm not ignorant enough to think OSU has no shot but it seems like a really steep mountain to climb.

Probably a long shot. Depends on if those other teams receiving those votes lose. Also depends on how they look against Oklahoma. And don't forget...they have a game on championship week so they will be in the forefront.

I know, that is scary. People (LSU fans) keep throwing out the 1/3 2nd place votes needed but it isn't that cut and dry. Every 2nd place vote Alabama gets OSU's chances go down. And same with every vote OSU get's at 4th or worse. And they will get some of those. It would take an absolute screwing for Alabama not to get most of the 2nd place votes.

not really. you have to think... right now Arkansas is wedged between Bama and OSU in one poll and Arkansas and Va Tech are in between in another. When LSU beats Arkansas, Oklahoma State will be right on Bama's heels and if Va Tech slips to Virginia or Clemson they'll be directly behind. Then it'll come down to whether or not voters think Alabama should get a chance to play a team they couldn't beat already over OSU who will have a conference title, tougher schedule, and hasn't played LSU. I wouldn't call that a screw job.

OSU will lose to the Sooners anyway. It's all moot.

Alabama's and OSU's computer strengths are pretty much gonna stay the same. They will move a little and hopefully Alabama will gain ground but I doubt it.

Ok now we have human voters. Alabama is dominating 2nd place votes. And have none worse than 3rd. OSU has mostly 6th place votes and some 7th place votes too The computers are what's even keeping them 4th right now.

Ok OSU needs 1/3 2nd place votes and the rest 3rd place votes. People who are voting OSU 4th 5th 6th and 7th in the polls will have to go frick this we're voting OSU 2nd. And then the rest of em will have to vote 3rd.

Elleshoe please explain to me how THAT isn't a screwing...

do your research before you post. It will only take 25% of human polls to sway this to Ok ST Computers like them better than gumps and if they beat OU you may be sitting home

It will be razor close but it is not a done deal for the gumps

Gumps have nothing that will bump them up in the computers the rest of the year. Right now you are hanging on by a dangling chad

I think the numbers will actually have OSU gain a slight bit more of a lead due to playing OU compared to playing Auburn.

OSU just lost, a lot of that dropping is reactionary to the crazy weekend we just went through. Also keep in mind that the Big 12 appears to be a very strong conference this year, and they would have won the Big 12 title against another "big name" rival on a weekend where Bama sits idle.

You're also going to get more of things like Herbstreit going off on voters for putting Virginia Tech at #4 with their joke of a schedule. My personal opinion is that OSU will be a solid #3 if they beat OU and voters look at the whole season. For the question posed, I believe every #4 vote OSU gets means they have to get another #2 vote over what they needed (estimated at 26% I believe).

Do my homework? I know the computers favor OSU. I put it in my post. Apparently they need 25% and not 33%, I was wrong about that. My questions and points are all still the same though.

OSU is 6th in both polls. Arkansas, VT, and Stanford are in between them and Alabama.

That's true, but I think voters view the final poll differently than others. How many #2, 3 , or 4 votes were we getting after the Arkansas loss in 07? Only two teams ahead of us lost in the final week and we jumped the other 3 anyway.

ETA: I'm not saying it will happen, I have no idea what the voters will do.

The voters reactions spoke volumes after Alabama lost.

The computers have OSU so high because the Big12 is "strong" this year. But humans aren't blind like the computers. Te big12 isn't THAT good.

My point in all this is LSU fans are now rallying around this 25% 2nd place vote stuff. But I'd be willing to bet that it's gonna take more than 25% of the 2nd place votes for OSU to get in.

I went thru some of the math last night. IF Arky/VaTech/Stanford ALL lose and IF Chokie Light beats Chokelahoma then on the base math Chokie Light will have 0.9168 in the BCS and Alabama will have 0.9491 (assuming UA gets no additional votes or computer points). The 0.0323 defferential is close enough that the anti-rematch vote could bridge the gap. As I count it that is 6 if's but it is still possible.

I'm not 100% familiar with the votes during the week you are talking about. Didn't 2 teams lose in the last week that would have gone to the NC over LSU? LSU was obviously in the SEC then and was probably the sexy pick to be in the NCG if those teams happen to lose. That's just the way the SEC is. Alabama is in the SEC and seems like the sexy pick, and is already getting all the 2nd place votes. OSU is getting some 7th place votes. That isn't something to just shrug off.

Oh don't take this thread as me arguing if it can or can't happen. I know damn well OSU has a shot. But it isn't "hey watch out Bama OSU only needs 25% of the 2nd place votes." They need Arky to lose. Then they need VT to lose. Then Stanford. And probably a few more schools because OSU is getting 7TH PLACE VOTES right now. Then they need 25% of the 2nd place votes and the rest ALL 3rd pace. But woops, ole homer over here in the south thinks losing to ISU is really bad (which it is) and puts OSU at 4th. Well now they need more than 25% 2nd place votes.

my bad, I forgot about Stanford in that poll. It'll then come down to who the voters decide should be ranked higher between Stanford and OSU. OSU may well get that nod since they will be playing on championship Saturday and Stanford won't.

eta: some of us actually have to do work at work. Not just take a water break at the constuction site
