Anyone who thinks recruiting is a totally clean business is being unrealistic. Coaches can be friends but business is business and most of them are playing for keeps.

dgs it was AN SEC rule that forbade Smith to transfer from one SEC school to another and becoming immediately eligible for scholarship. I know you are likely ignoring that ALL IMPORTANT rule. But tis so. Also SEC rules forbid recruiting off another loop team's roster. Georgia violated one rule and ignored another fanning the flames of the poor put upon young black athlete who only wants to change his major. Didn't help Georgia as they went what...7-5 and lost to yikes! Vandy! And Smith lost a sack full of cash as he didn't get drafted. But by Damn Kirby showed he will violate the rules and do things Richt wouldn't. And that aggressivness is what the Georgia admin and fans paid the big bucks for. But what goes around comes around.

Georgia has everything going for. Great staff, great fans, best recruiting oppty of any school in America. Don't do chicken shat things to screw it up.

He is but I'm not sure the SEC rules have changed. In fact I think Alabama waived it on Smith voluntarily. So it is my understanding the SEC still has a rule against the transfer and go on scholarship.

Smith could transfer but he could not be on scholarship. Without a waiver.

Saban DID waive it. I suspect that Sankey told him that the rule would just be thrown out in court anyway, so save the money and embarrassment.

All's fair in Love and War. Just don't be surprised when Saban doesn't take a knee up by 24 in the 4th.

Smith would've gotten drafted coming off the bench when the offense gave them certain looks at Bama, but not arguably being UGA's best db in 2016? I'll have what ever he's smoking.

That was the same Mo Smith who wasn't even starting at Alabama. How dare him want to go somewhere to get more playing time.

You act like he was a three year All SEC starter and he was lured away from Bama under clandestine operations.

How many Alabama dbs have been drafted that didn't start in their time there?

Like it or not Korean dawg there is a Bama bump in the NFL draft. The NFL knows they get a player from an ultimate discipline, work ethic, competition perspective. 12 player off this years team including one guy who never started a game and was probably about the number 6 defensive tackle. Plus Saban's word is gold with NFL. Do his players deserve that? No, I don't think so but them's the breaks. And this is important.

Smith was not a work-a-holic at UA and he was being driven pretty hard is my understanding to get him to realize his big time potential. The NFL pays a lot of money for players and frowns on investing in guys who they think may be running from accoutibility or more effort. My understanding.

That’s a rule made for Non graduate transfers. Sec clarified there is a difference between grad and non grad.

That’s quite the leap you are making.

I ask one more time, how many Bama db's who were not starters got drafted? If he was going to start, he would not have transferred. He's on an active roster as we speak. I doubt he regrets his decision.

Kirby isn't doing anything now that he wasn't doing at Bama. He's just in control of things from that standpoint and actually has Bama copying him. Saban was slow to work the social media end of it, not anymore.

I don't mind long posts so long as they are informative and, you know, coherent. This was an 0-fer.

You mean Kirby is a regular on Dawgpost? If Were I the AD @ an SEC school and caught my coach on here killing brain cells and trying to feel relevant I'd get one of Barzini's or Sulotso's guys on the line. Not even sure if I'd give him a complimentary horse's head first.

Seriously ole Nick is sorta old fashioned. His closet confidant is Bellichik. But he is open minded therefore he invited the new wave Eagles staff in to shake them down for how they beat BB.

He also hired a bunch of young boys to run the wind sprints up and down the recruiting trails that Guys like Kirby and JP had laid off on their underlings before they left. Now that they have their own teams they get with it again. So yeah Saban learns. But he also brought in a modern day Ken Donahue to coach the DL (Coach Kool). I won't bore yo with who KD was but you better brace up trying to run against Bama's front this year and trying to throw the ball. And they won't miss a beat with the guy who replaced JP/Kirby. If they stay healthy AU's Stidham ain't throwing it and if they meet again UGA ain't running it. Should be a hell of a year and the next two or three after that could get wild.
