80 out of 30,000,000 Americans 18-24 have died in 4 months from covid. This includes people with all kinds of pre-existing conditions and health issues

However,

A smart doctor predicts 7 out of 13,000 18-24 year olds who are athletes screened for health issues will die in 3 months

It’s fricking laughable

only 130 people have died in the entire United States of America between the age of 15-24

So, let’s say 80 from 18-24 years old in the entire United States

There are 30 million people in America from 18-24 years old. So .00026% have died

Now, in three months of college football 7 will die from a pool of 13,000, .05% That’s fricking retarded

Not to mention the pool of 13,000 is screened for pre existing conditions and such

It’s absolutely ridiculous

If .00026% died, and stayed consistent with the normal population which is being conservative, thats 0.03 people out of 13,000

How many die when those Players see family and friends after the Game and hug\interact with their Parents and other older relatives?

A 30% infection rate would be about right in line with the general pop.

6-7 deaths would be MASSIVELY out of line with the general pop. I have no idea how he could possibly come to that projection

Probably very few. That’s life and nature, the strong survive.

How many die from some other cause? How many die because they got Covid elsewhere? How many of these players will be out partying all of the time because they aren’t playing football? Just impossible to answer any of this.

We have two options. Realize it’s a virus that will spread and live with the risk or go into hiding until we have a rushed to the market vaccine.

I don’t see how the latter is viable.

7 day avg for deaths keeps falling btw

The argument that it’s better to be infected earlier in the year is predicated on players and coaches being immune to reinfection after testing positive. Unfortunately, experts say you cannot definitively rule out getting the virus again once you’ve had it.

“You can’t assume that having had the disease before protects you,” said Dr. George Rutherford, professor of epidemiology and director of Public Health at University of California-San Francisco. “Just because you have it doesn’t mean you’re protected. Having said that, we don’t have lots of evidence or even really case reports of people being reinfected.”

They are young athletes in top physical condition, they will be ok. Get this virus now and get over it and get on with school, athletics and LIFE.

What's going to be so different for an athlete as opposed to a regular student? I'll bet a lot of students get it. Almost all will have minor symptoms and be done with it. But lets not pretend that we would be protecting anyone by not having football. They'll just get it somewhere else.

I'm afraid College Football is going to be victim of the Politics of the Virus. If you can not have CF, then how can we safely vote in person ? I sometimes wonder what our response would be to this virus if it wasn't an election year.

Partner, your little chart is shite.

There were a total of 157 deaths attributed to Covid-19 the week of June 27th in the U.S. These are CDC stats. This is down from 1,270 the week of June 20th. The largest number of deaths occurred the week of April 18th with a total of 16,368 deaths. That’s what we call a downward trend.

New York is responsible for the largest total with nearly 30,000 deaths. That’s roughly 25% of the U.S. total! The mortality rate for our nation is 0.038% ...that’s 3 basis points.

It is absurd to compare the U.S. experience to a country like Italy, et al. They have a population of 30 million and it is the size of Arizona. The U.S. has a population of 330 million and I can assume you know the land mass size.

If you want to compare apples to apples, convert your chart to Deaths Per Capita, then you get a sense of the true picture in the U.S. However, make sure you exclude NYC - it is the outlier and has the highest number of deaths per capita in the WORLD. You will notice the CDC has broken it out from the state of New York in the link below.

I do NOT dispute this virus is highly contagious. I do question the drama and hysteria surrounding it.

If they cancel football, might as well cancel the election too. Move both to next year. I bet if that discussion became public, the virus would suddenly be no big deal.
