Because he was an idiot...

You stupid frick. Your entire roster will regress, especially at QB. The rules that rendered his offense impotent are still in place. In 3 years you will have no OTs on the roster. Your DC is in over his head. Will be a disaster

Gus was stubborn to a fault. He refused to evolve and for the life of him, he couldn’t trust a single OC to run anything different/better. When Gus started evaluating and recruiting his own OLinemen things went downhill.

While this may be true, there is some revisionist history at play, usuallyby Auburnfans.
Gus had several O-Linemen that were high stars commit or say they would only to jump to uga or others at the last minute.
He knew he needed an OL, he was just out recruited or outpaid. He didn't blindly ignore it.

Sometimes players make coaches look competent. Sometimes coaches make players look competent.

He needs qbs that are already developed.

Because Gus wanted to prove he could win throwing the ball.
So he developed a diversified passing attack with bubble screen and a go route outside the numbers. To go with it he ran the ball using the “inside zone” after any first down.
Surprisingly, college football defensive coaches figured this sophisticated system out and blitzed the A gaps and put safeties over the top.

You win a title with Cam, which probably 35% of the country could have done with how good he was.
You get to another title game with Nick Marshal...
What’s the reoccurring theme?
A QB from somehwere else that he didn't develop?
Every QB that has come to Gus straight out of HS that he's coached their whole career has been...unimpressive.
