I like your optimism...but here are 3 reasons it won't happen:

1. Nico banged up...even if he does clear concussion protocol, a Freshman on the road in a hostile environment after being injured is not good.

2. Sampson banged up...the leading rusher in the SEC is crucial for UT, which will already be 1-dimensional with the aforementioned issues surrounding Nico.

3. Thornton banged up...the only way to keep UGA's defense honest is to have a deep threat. Otherwise, they just load the box and roll up 3 and outs.

In an offense that has already struggled at times with timing...these three issues are the perfect storm for catastrophe.

Nico plays better when hurt because he's not too caught up in his own head as evidenced against Alabama but honestly i was very impressed with the backup.

Kid is a baller and doesn't second guess his decisions. The offense looked smooth with Gaston in there.

Quite frankly, i know that Nico is the future, but wouldn't be surprised is Gaston is better just because of his experience in the system. I noticed he looks off different reads and he was finding the open check downs better than Nico does. Don't get me wrong though, Nico has greatly improved since getting hot in the second half vs Bama.

Also, about Thornton, i don't think he's actually hurt

Heupel is smart and took him out to save him for UGA as he's their biggest deep threat by far.

Wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for Nico as well buy personally I would still be confident in a Vol victory with Gaston and Thornton playing.

Don't get the pessimism from the UT fans. Beck is good for spotting you 3 TOs. We're down to our 1 and 4 backs. Your defense is good. I envision us put on a one dimensional display of Run, Run, bubble screen. I'm gonna be SHOCKED if we attempt 2 passes over 15 yards and even more amazed if our receivers catches either of them. I don't think most of you guys fully appreciate just how bad our offense is. They haven't regressed. They've fallen into an abyss with a tar pit at the bottom. Barring an outright act of God they aren't gonna suddenly wake up and play championship level football.

We have the uncanny ability of making the worst quarterbacks look like Heisman finalists. Beck will likely have the game of his life against us. No joke.

Additionally, he can spot us all he wants. Actually getting into the end zone or hitting a field goal in a big game... ehhh

Gas pipe is Gaston's name in the locker room apparently. The team seems to have a tonne of confidence in him. I'd imagine he'll become an instant Tennessee legend if he plays and wins.

I love Heupel's confidence in the locker room with his players BTW. You can tell he's a heck of a coach.

He won't do anything of significance if UGA can't run the ball effectively.

Tennessee couldn't hang 34 on them
_____________________________________________________________

Not exactly true. Vols had first and goal on the five with 37 seconds left. Took a knee to end the game. But most likely coulda hung 40 on them if Heupel wanted to.

Won't be shocked if UT wins a close game.

I will be shocked if they score 34 points.

The reality is Tennessee's offense (particularly the passing offense) has been poor this year.

The only team who scored more than 28 against UGA was Bama, and that was a road game for UGA and a horrendous first 20 minutes in which Bama scored 28 of their 41 points.

On the flip side Tennessee hasn't reached 34 points in a SEC game yet. Their highest was 33 against MSU in a home game last week.

Nico is playing hurt if he plays. Sampson is dinged up. Not sure why anyone would think an offensive explosion is going to happen for Tennessee on the road against the UGA defense.

Tennessee has enough defense to win without a great offensive performance. They've done that in nearly every win they've had against SEC teams this year. But I don't see them scoring more than 24-27 at the high end.

Because Heupel worked with Lebby and respects him a lot. Lebby should be Oklahoma 's head coach not Vernerables.
