Penn State - Matt Rhule (think this was decided before they fired Franklin. You don't fire a guy that was a play away from the national championship 9 months ago unless you already have your guy)
Florida - Alex Golesh (USF makes the playoff and he's the hottest name) Maybe it's Kiffin, but I think he stays in Oxford until Bama, UGA, OSU, Texas, or LSU come available
Arkansas- Petrino (Think they pull off an upset or 2 and it gets him the job)
Auburn - Sumrall (This would be my top choice for Ole Miss if Kiffin does leave. Don't think Kentucky fires Stoops yet after he turned down A&M)
Nebraska - Mullen (Hate him, but he knows how to coach. Get him a GM to handle recruiting and he will be very successful. He would win a national championship if Michigan hired him)
Other Candidates:
Franklin- Think he'll take a year off to work TV. If I'm Arkansas, I'd offer him tomorrow.
Clark Lea- Think he'll be the runner up for some of these big jobs and people will want to see if he can replicate his success with a new qb.
Brian Hartline - Think this is who Penn State should go after. Think OSU fans would rather Ryan Day leave than Hartline

Curt Cignetti to Penn State Lane Kiffin to Florida James Franklin to Arkansas Jon Gruden to Auburn
Cignetti is realistic
Lane and Jeremy hate each other. He isn’t going to Florida
Franklin will be an assistant until his buyout is fully paid.
Auburn isn’t firing Freeze until his buyout drops. They already have 3 former coaches still on the payroll.

curious as to why so many think Freezus gets another year
Penn State, a school that i know is having budgetary problems, will be paying out more to fire Franklin as AU would have to pay for Gustav/Meathead/Freezus combined
I think he is gone, which is why I said Deion to Auburn.

Lane would be available. The portal window doesn't open until the 2nd round games are over and players get 5 days from their last game to portal if they are one of the final four teams. My guess is if he took the job he would want to complete the playoff season if Ole Miss let him. Things could be done behind the scenes at UF to where he wasn't officially hired until the portal window but it would be a giveaway he is the next coach if no one was hired before that unless someone like Mizzu was still alive in the playoff.

Imagine the buy outs LOL.....Florida for certain ought to have pulled the pin last year when there were relatively fewer jobs open. With as many firings as there have already been this season it may be the most openings ever....buy out clauses are going to be enormous LOL....

What about Manny Diaz or Brian Hartline?
Have these names been mentioned?
I think Hartline would be an excellent hire for someone despite having no HC experience.

Cignetti is going someplace. Indiana is not going to be able to keep him.

I highly doubt Cignetti would come to UF. I think he stays or ends up at Penn State.

Pedo St will hire a coach with Pennsylvania ties. I’m thinking Matt Rhule, Cignetti or Manny Diaz

I can’t see the Gators hiring someone that old. He’s already 64.

I do not think there are many coached Penn St cannot get. Also interested to see how Florida State falls into all of this.

Norvell isn't going anywhere. They can't afford it

I don’t want Golesh coaching in the SEC especially at Florida

So if Kiffin goes to Florida, who goes to Ole Miss. If BK leaves for PSU, who goes to LSU.

I'm not sure why people think Penn State is all that and a bag of chips. To me, it's basically commodity cheese Notre Dame--a place that makes a great deal out of faded glory and weak schedules. As the Big 10 gets better, that's going to be a lot harder to sustain. Penn State, to me, is almost devoid of any real personality. Colors are generic, uniforms are generic, generally beat who they should, generally lose to who they should. It is far and away the least interesting major program.

Neither is going to happen. Seems silly to even project the possible replacements.
LSU would throw a lot of money at a big young coach like Lanning
Ole Miss would probably hire the best OC they could get. One of these guys Mike Denbrock (Notre Dame), Will Stein (Oregon), Andy Kotelnicki (Penn State), Ryan Grubb (Alabama), and Brian Hartline (Ohio State)

They are UCLA of the midwest
Posted on 10/13/25 at 4:37 pm to RGT
I think Golesh is the most probable.
