You do realize endowments are most always for educational use only. Clearly if this was not the case the Ivy League would be the #1 sports conference in the USA
While I do think it was a mistake because Utx - autism shares the ego of other lead dog schools like Ohio State and Southern Cal. At least historically a single school or maybe two could dominate weaker conferences. The beauty of the SEC is they have always been stronger combined than any dominant school.
While Utx may have advantages individually, there is no way in hell they will be stronger than the other 15 combined. They may throw tantrums but this may be the stop where nobody listens and they are sent to the corner for a "Time Out".

The Southwest Conference and Big XII probably hoped it would be the stop too.

There they were the higher up on the pecking order, here they are just a second team in TX. They left the old SIAA to form the SWC when they threw tantrums the last time. Maybe they leave for the B1G this time and that place just is getting desperate to take Rutgers and land on the West Coast.
College sports have value over the pros because you have rivals that are close and easy to play. What fan is traveling from UCLA to attend a Rutgers game?
Time works things out and history really does repeat itself

Having to change conferences twice in 28 years ought to tell them something but they are mostly Texans and as such completely and utterly un-self aware. The suffer from a debilitating inferiority complex which is mostly unfounded and they are constantly over compensating for real and their own perceived shortcomings. DO or say something that a Texan, think skinned and trembling with self hatred as almost all of them are, perceives as disrepectful and you ain't never seen anything short of a drunk woman over react the way the average Texan will. It is really sad because they could be good people if they would just stop being so damned unsure of themselves. Lots to like about Texas and even some redeeming qualities in Texans if you can get past the bluster and fake machismo but most of them hate themselves so badly that no one else can tolerate them.

What's 12 years say about Georgia? You left the SIAA in 1920 and then left the Southern Conference in 1932. Were Georgians just "completely and utterly un-self aware" back then? Or does that logic just apply to today?

OK, not to bust your bubble there but clearly you don't know your actual history and need to step back from that acid laced austin Kool Aid.
SIAA > SoCon > SEC = continual cohesive group
Think of SIAA (and SoCon) as the realignment of today where a core group adds to get bigger. SEC was the "downsizing" of the bigger group. Georgia has association with Charter SIAA and SoCon schools and as Charter schools they are also Charter SEC members. The reason the SEC plays ACC and FCS schools is they are still active with their former members.
Georgia may have "left" the SIAA and SoCon in name only but kept all their original band. South Carolina, TAMU, and now Utx is just putting the old band back together.
Utx left the band to pout, started the SWC, then took TAMU
SEC left the band in the age of trains as they were west of the mountains
ACC left the band in the age of trains as they were east of the mountains

XWing atAliciousness does not speak for all Texas fans. He apparently loves to push the buttons on this rant, so that's between y'all and him. Personally, I think most Texas fans are excited to become a part of this new conference, and look forward to many great games in the future. We will eventually find our way around, but we hope to be competitive in all our sports.
