Also, will put more resources into program. His 8-3 finish was instrumental. And he needs to buy OU a new popcorn machine, that fire changed his fortunes.
NEWS: Oklahoma Atheltic Director Roger Denny tells ESPN that Porter Moser will return to the Sooners next year. They met this morning and spoke about building the program for 2026-27, including increased resources throughout the program and specifically NIL for players.

OU was top 10 in basketball spending last year and he is barely making the tournament . He’s getting resources to make him competitive . He can’t keep recruits at OU the turnover is bad all over college basketball but especially at OU.

It’s on Coach Moser to make sure that our team’s performance continues to meet and exceed our resources for the program. He’s done that and I’m confident he will continue to.
But an underdog spirit will only take us so far. It’s my job to ensure that our resources match our expectations. We haven’t held up our end of that bargain. From NIL to staffing and beyond, we’re going to fix that.
On top of how we resource our program, it’s critical our fans show out for our team. I’ve seen firsthand the difference community support of college basketball can make. A bigger and louder crowd, a true home-court advantage, and a zealous fan base are all essential to our success.
Oklahoma Men’s Basketball is a proud program. We’re going to restore that pride, together.

We were told they were given substantially more money… so basically that means they were given next to nothing the previous year lol. I think he’s a good hard working coach … he has to get recruits in to build a program . Not playing his younger players this year imo hurts him in the long run . Atok never touched the court the last half of the season and he was a really good offensive player . We are losing a hit ton of players . It could be a long long season next year if we don’t get the money he needs .

If they invest it can be good. Keep in mind the $1B sports complex being built in Norman and when it opens in 3-4 years you want your basketball teams to be competing to give it a great opening welcome.
Regardless my sentiments if he should stay or not this is the right decision. His buyout was $5.7M so by keeping him they can spend that money on program instead. Which is best long term. If you fire and spend it in buyout then your next coach is handicapped too. So from a pure money POV its the best choice.
Plus if you do spend more and if he fails you fire him at less money in a year but have a better program setup for next coach.

He did a great job in turning that team around. You have some great shooters and a lot of heart on that team. I hope you make the tournament but in another bracket from us!

Agree firing him unless we were going to be getting Kellen Sampson would be the wrong decision imo with the money owed … nothing will change unless you can get the program running like Lon or Kelvin did . OU is a top 25 national basketball program and has a deep history of making runs in the tourney … what we are going thru now isn’t acceptable imo but we have to give the coach hat he needs or it won’t change .

Another point. If they invest money and he fails, the AD will have more candidates who he can show the support is there. Right now if you fire, any coach candidates might be leery of program spending.
Its a win win decision. And I do like Moser the person he genuinely cares about the program and players. And got them to stay trying after a 1-9 conf start. I don’t think he fits modern era rules with unlimited transfers and NIL. But next year we’ll see what he can do with proper investment.
Had he been fired then everyone would wonder if it was him or money and now we’ll all get to see the answer before making a knee jerk reaction. And I was one who wanted him fired midway thru conf play. I was wrong

cal spoke highly of porter last night and said if they gave him the resources he would win. He said other coaches have this problem as well.
