Brilliant freaking post.

50% of us could see all this several years back when this debate on the front burner.

50% of us could not see this, and all they wanted to do was bellow about schools getting rich on players backs.

Some people see trees, some people see the forest.

Those that only see trees have royally effed this up.

Now a question - on down the road - could you envision a group (possibly conference) of schools that campaign to "put the college back in college football"... or something along those lines. To summarize, they basically form their own little NCAA and go forth from there.

Idk, I just can't see us losing the baby AND the bath water when all this is done. But who knows.

There are no scholarship limits and the roster limit is now 34 players…LSU will have 34 players on scholarship. That come with non-taxable payments too.

Going to add a 10% talent fee for the girl's volleyball tickets, too? It's only fair!

Tennessee Volunteers vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Neyland Stadium - Fri 10/18
Tickets as low as $349

Want to take a family of 4 to the ball game?

FINE! $1396 + gas, parking, and food.

Should be no more than a $1700-1800 day.

...for a football game.

My minimum donation went up $200 this year. Now it is being raised another $260.

A raise of $460 from 2023 to 2025 for the minimum donation in my section. Now add the rise in ticket/parking pass costs.

I'm about to say frick 'EM and buy an 98" TV.

There will be paychecks and withholding like all employees. Since the courts have declared that college athletes may be employees, I would guess they'd be subject to withholding, Medicare, SS taxes, etc.

LINK to ESPN court ruling this summer

quote:

PHILADELPHIA -- College athletes whose efforts primarily benefit their schools may qualify as employees deserving of pay under federal wage-and-hour laws, a U.S. appeals court ruled Thursday in a setback to the NCAA.

I did that a few years ago but mine is only 80 inch. Plus you miss so many other games when you attend in person. I mean there is a game on at tailgate but probably not the one you have interest in plus the commotion creates a distraction. Don't miss it a bit. Sitting shoulder to shoulder to a stranger was not appealing to me either.

That's what I did when my kids went to college. I said screw it and let my season tickets go. It was worth it for me. I can still go to a game when I want, but not bound to anything. When I watch from home, I get 3 games on Saturday, instant replay, whatever I want to eat, cold beer, clean bathroom, etc.

But I do miss the environment - you can't replace that for sure.

I paid $800 to go to that game in 2015, with a parking pass. But it was a special occasion.

Ticket sales will grow 10% as a whole. The football is projected to see about a 4.5% increase alone.

Teams will be smaller too, football and baseball. Gone are the day of a walk on. That’s pretty sad. Most knew they would never play, but it meant enough to them to bust arse and help the team they love in whichever little way they could.

Now you’ll have scholarship players who don’t dress out and travel.

It makes me sick to think there won’t be walk-ons any more.

I can’t imagine no more Cody Schrader stories.

$22 million?

Cut coaching salaries in half and there's 50% of it. No need to go find new money. Do you think Kirby Smart would reject $5 million? Think he'll leave and go sell insurance?

Actually that’s why it’s not going to happen fast as soon as they agree on something some new school (Tenn) finds a reason to throw a monkey wrench in their plan.

Yes it was suppose to eliminate collectives ….. there is no reason to be paying them 22 mil a season if the collectives are going to keep paying then also.

This is just going to give the appearance of equity across the schools, but it will only place the poorer schools on life support.
The number of sponsored sports will decrease.
Title 9 will keep equal overall amounts to men and women sports.
Each sport will now need to have a cap.
Will not stop or alter nil.
Will not stop bag dropping.
Will increase IRS scrutiny, so the bag dropping game better be tight!
To be compliant with title 9 some schools may be forced to drop all men's sports that arent football, basketball and baseball. Even. Larger schools may not be able to support more mens sports beyond those 3, maybe track and swimming...or whatever sports the schools value most. If this happens it will have a negative effect on team USA for future Olympic games.

College football will not love you back.

I watch some, but I don’t make an appointment for it. I play my Saturday golf, then surf games when I get home.

The players are in it for themselves, and I’m in it for me.

Gus broke me with the inside zone, then NIL and the portal finished me off.

I’m just about done with it. It doesn’t help that Florida is terrible, but if I’m going to spend thousands of dollars I’d rather go skiing or take my family on a vacation.
