Saw this being discussed on the Auburn board. I would open up the checkbook.

With the Gus buyout, they are going to have to do that and then some.

I’m taking credit for it if it happens.

There is a man at K-State who would make Auburn a game to be feared every year. Just saying.

The buyout is not that prohibitive. Money players can make this happen if they want to.

Does he have any ties to any SEC schools?

Totally agree. But has he been at K-State long enough to jump ship? I'm assuming he's not Lane Kiffen and has more loyalty to a big program that hired him.

Our school is too short-sighted to make that type of hire. And I mean a hire that makes sense.

I assure you if Auburn came calling he would zip out of K-State with a quickness.

Does he have a network of bag-men? This must be a pre-requisite for the next Auburn coach.

Then why the hell are they settling for mediocrity year after year? I'd have to think the money players have a hell of a lot invested in that program already, why sit back and watch this?

I agree with RT1941. Why the hell are we settling for mediocrity year after year. I'm tired of 8-4 and 7-5!

No, but that doesn’t mean anything.

That guy is a Midwest guy. I don't see him coming South.

They'd be better off going after Bill Clark from UAB. That's the best hire for them, plus they could probably get away with paying him $3 Mil/year which would offset that money they owe Gus.

I just don't buy that Gus is gone. Auburn is on pace to finish no worse than 8-4. I'm not convinced they don't snag one from Georgia or Bama and finish 9-3.

Still, at 8-4, he's staying. I know Auburn likes to pretend that they are Alabama, but 8-4 at Auburn is not going to get you fired. 9-3 darn sure isn't. You guys fall to 7-5, then I'm all ears. Until then, I think it's just message board idiocy.

Listen I'm not a Gus advocate but it's not that simple of a call.

Gus, for his faults, has a high floor. He's shown no evidence of being the type of guy who will preside over a program collapse. He usually wins games he should win, minimizes off-field issues and can get a team hot for a 5 game stretch or a season every now and then.

Do I think we can easily find a guy to go 8-4 at Auburn? Yes. Do I think it's necessarily easy to find a guy who can do it very consistently, including with a top 5 schedule over several years, without having major down years or burning out? Not so sure.

I'm not one of these AU fans who says we can't move on from Gus because we don't want to be Tennessee, but it is a consideration. There aren't a lot of sure bets and we're confronted with the reality of spending a shite ton of money to get rid of a low-risk, competent HC and roll the dice elsewhere.

Gun to my head, I'm probably rolling the dice if this is another 8-4 season. But it's not that easy of a call.

He's not. I think he's safe at 8-4 unless the losses are really bad and at 9-3 I think he's beyond safe.
