You might be thinking about Arkansas Highway 59 that runs right along the Arkansas-Oklahoma border. It's a great ride.

I ride 16 and 23 often. In fact, I was out that direction on Saturday. If you push it too hard, those roads can be treacherous. It's pretty twisty, there are no shoulders at all, and a little loose sand or gravel washed down from a hillside side road can put you in the ditch (or down the hill, or in the trees) really fast.

I hope CBP's condition is no worse than it sounds.

Any of the three old routes, 59, 71 or 23, which take you from Fayetteville down to the river valley, are scenic and twisty.

Hell, even the freeway is a pretty drive. That is some very rugged country.

Mike Irwin said on his show that the injuries were severe enough that they wanted to med flight him to Springfield but the family fought to keep him in Fayetteville.

Prior to my senior year in high school, we had to take 71 anytime we played outside of NWA in sports. Coming back over that in a bus at night in spring storms during basketball season was always a scary adventure.

My Freshman Comp teacher at the UA was a guy from Boston who looked and sounded a whole lot like Dennis Leary. I remember him saying he had taken a drive down the Pig Trail one weekend, and he saw signs that said to take the next curve at 10mph, and when he saw it, he knew why...because if you went 11, you'd be off the mountain. The Pig Trail has some serious hairpins and drop-offs. I know at Cassville he wasn't down there yet, but that part of the road is no picnic either.

So do I. I get 50 miles to gallon. You have to be a very defensive driver and always take the safe route. On interstate I feel very safe, on highways not so much due to cars pulling out etc.

Most problems come from inexperience, speeding, impaired and the other driver. You can take care of all but one.

Same here, except the reverse. The drill team almost always made the trip up the hill when we played Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville...I remember one time my Junior year it started snowing when we were playing Bentonville in football. Not only did we freeze our asses off in those damn stands, we had ride the bus back down 71 after the game was over!
