I see this narrative lot but I have never heard anyone say how he could have taken the LSU job in a better fashion. He was damned if he did, damned if he didn't.
100%
This thought that "he shouldn't have quit on his team" is actually people just saying he should have stayed at Ole Miss and declined LSU's offer.
If you operate in the arena where LSU is a better job than Ole Miss, then there was no way to win here.

Lol. Try informing your coach. Maybe he'll shut his cake hole, but I doubt it. This thread exists because of petty Petey's unwavering desire to communicate just how un-Lane-like he is.

If we had just come out and said "I'm taking the LSU job because I think it's a better job" and walked away, Ole Miss fans would have been upset but that would have been the end of it.
To try to burn it all down on the way out because we wouldn't let him coach the playoffs after accepting the job and continuing to take shots at Ole Miss 5+ months later is what people are pissed about.

You misspelled "To try to coach his team and finish the season"

Pete did this unprompted and it was not in response to anything. Totally uncalled for.

I think Ole Miss anger is completely warranted however the vast majority of the evidence that says he tried to burn it down is based on hearsay and unsubstantiated reports.
For example, the whole staff ultimatum piece. That doesn't really add up considering there were Ole Miss coaches ultimately hired at LSU who weren't on the plane.

He's completely innocent and took no part in the madness

Multiple national reporters have confirmed large portions of this, including:

staff ultimatum piece.
This isn't just Ole Miss beat reporters spewing info. It's national college football media who have all told similar stories

There is no way this scenario unfolds where Kiffin isn't hated by ole miss fans
LSU fans despised Saban when he went to Alabama and he did not even go there directly from LSU. If Bama offered him the job while at LSU and he took it, because "bama is just better" I cant imagine what the outrage would be. Ole Miss would be no different in that regard

There's a big difference between unliked / disposed and hated.
He always would have been unliked, like any former coach who ever leaves any school.

You can handle googling it. It's easy to find. There's plenty of articles - so take your pick.
Anyone I linked you'll come up with some story about how the author has always hated LSU and can't be believed.

I haven't been able to locate a single national reporter that reports something like the staff ultimatum, without referring back to the original information from your beat writers.
Ole Miss fans insist it's out there, but no one is ever able to furnish an actual link.
As stated originally, the ultimatum itself doesn't really make sense as there were guys who still had a job at Ole Miss, and weren't on the plane with Lane, yet still ended up at LSU.

He wouldve been despised and hated
If you leave an SEC school after being very successdul at that school to head to a rival SEC school, and state you left because the other school is better. You will be hated, there is no escaping it. We can pretend like that's not the case but it is quite clearly the case

Chris Low reported it. There's one for you
Posted on 6/3/26 at 11:08 am to OleVaught14
Seems like it was a false report, considering coaches weren't on that plane and are now at LSU.

And right on queue - "the story can't be believed despite the national media reporting"
