when an occasion arises that i chat with someone with bama gear on (bar, restraunt, elevator, etc) i always ask if they attended the university. i do this with other sec schools also as a point to start a conversation. after decades of doing this, i have only talked to a handful of bama fans that actuallly went there. less than any other school except tejas. since this has happened hundreds of times, i begin to wonder if there really is a school in tuscalosa named bama.

And Mobile is where UA is located? Pick an argument and stick to it.

Again. Where the Hell do you actually socialize at to have only met "a handful of 'Bama alums" over the years? It's not exactly a small university.

As a 2002 grad,as I've said a million times our "sidewalk" fans don't bother me at all,the retards such as the teabagger and Updyke are the minority of a otherwise fine fanbase.

The same can go for OU and Arkansas. Go anywhere in those states you see tons of fans wearing T-Shirts, hats, having license plates, etc reppin the schools. I'm positive most of them didn't go to those schools. Hell they love football and don't have a pro team so I can understand the love for the schools.

Then factor in the nice stadiums that hold just as much as pro stadiums, that's their pro team. Much easier for them to go to a game at Fayetteville or Norman than to drive to KC, Dallas, Nashville, or New Orleans and fighting traffic to watch a pro game.

Me neither.

I'm sure 'Bama has more, but since I doubt more than 50% of any fanbase in the SEC (outside of probably Vanderbilt) actually attended their favorite school, I'm not sure what the big deal is. If you are in a neutral area (i.e. not particularly close to any SEC town), point at someone in a bar wearing an SEC shirt, ask them if they are a grad, it's at least a 75% chance that they are not. I say this coming from a place like this. I know a load of UA, AU, UF, UT, etc. fans that haven't even stepped foot on their respective campuses.

Another question, why are they so annoying/obnoxious? I can't go anywhere around here without hearing some drunk Gumptard yell ROLL TIDE!

Who cares? Why should people have to attend the university to be a fan? I guess we have to play in the NFL to be fans of those teams too.

I'd say a good 95% from personal experience. Between my time living in New Orleans and Mobile, AL, I've met TONS of Alabama fans. Of course, none of them nor their immediate family members have any affiliation with the University. As a matter of fact, I don't know if 10% of the people I've met in Mobile have even gone to ANY type of college/university.

Now this is just stupid. I doubt very seriously that you have ever met every Alabama fan, so how can you know what 95% of them are. Why didn't you just say that 95% of the ones that you've met?
I am an alum, but I have no problem with people that have never gone to the university being a fan of the football team. That is the point a lot of them are fans of the sport teams, but doesn't necessarily mean that they are a fan of the University.

The original poster is correct... I would say less than 8% actual can say they have graduated from UAT... The gumptard sidewalkers are strong in number only when the tahd is on a roll. The Shula years were a glorious time to live in Alabamistan!

Living in North Carolina I can assure you that there is no reason to ever go to South Carolina except that they are between here and Tuscaloosa. I try not to stop.

Why? Auburn didn't accomplish shite during that time frame other than winning a people's championship.

It's funny when posters stir the pot with bama fans. If they truly believed they were superior, then they wouldn't respond at all. Shows their insecurity.

30 years ago most people didn't have the opportunity to go to college and had to start a career at 16 or 18. I think it is really shitty to act like people without college degrees are somehow subpar fans or citizens, especially from the older generations.

This is so true. I'm in my mid 40's and have been working for the same company for 26 years. I didn't have the opportunity to go to college because I had to go to work. I am now co-owner of the company and doing ok. I hate that I can't be a fan of the University of Alabama since I wasn't able go there.

Why is it even a big deal if you're a fan of a school you didn't attend? I grew up an Alabama fan (still am) but went to Samford and UAB. Does that make me any less of a fan? No.

Typically but not always Alums are more reasonable and intelligent fans. They understand why a graduate from another school would pull for his school and respect that. Sidewalk fans not so much.

I have a childhood friend that went to Virginia for undergrad and got his MBA at Vanderbilt and could care less about either as he's a big Alabama fan. Sadly, I now have to inform him that he's a laughingstock on the SEC Rant because he's a dirty sidewalk Bammer and wouldn't be cool enough to hang out with all the sophisticated USCe, LSU, and Auburn alums here making fun of him.
