Guy riding around with a gun and weed. You’re right no big deal. Normal civilians do this all the time.

2nd amendment and a substance that shouldn't be illegal to start with.

Aside from driving while high, cry more.

Kampus Kops doin' work. Harassing students is just one of the services they provide.

Speeding, barely. BAL below the limit, but pretext for vehicle search. Legal handgun. ONE frickING JOINT.

We hated those bastards when I was a student, and I suspect that most students still hate them to this day.

Whether this kid is legitimately in trouble or getting railroaded by small town keystone cops looking to make arrests, depends entirely on the DWI charge.

If the DWI charge was bullshite, then the search was bullshite, and the joint and gun are non issues (really they ought to be non issues anyway in this day and age, but Texas is still governed by blue hairs that believe in reefer madness) and this whole story is a non-issue.

If the DWI charge is legit, and so far we know it was not based on alcohol levels, but may be pending blood test results for other intoxicants. Then he deserves punishment IMO.

The aggie football team is drunk driving all over the place and shooting off guns while giving drugs to kids. They are worse than MS-13. Thank God Ivana Trump isn't alive to see this.

16 miles over the speed limit and drifting in and out of his lane at 2 in the morning. Fails multiple sobriety tests. Yeah, nothing to see here

That legal activity morphs into something illegal, because there was ONE joint in the vehicle?

Not per his breathalizer. We will see what the blood test says about the THC levels.

With all due respect, you are not familiar with the Kampus Kops. They LIVE to harass students.

His car smelling like weed gave the cop probable cause to search the car without a warrant

This depends on the state, but is probably true in Texas.

Not that it should be due to the extreme amount of abuse as a result.

I went to college. I know about campus cops. They suck everywhere I've ever been. College Station isn't unique

He didn't fail sobriety tests from what I read.

The cop didn’t say he drifted out of his lane. He said he drifted left to right in his lane.

You don't have to be drunk to intoxicated. The more you know

It was 2am. Assuming that he WAS "drifting" (again, the Kampus Kops), that could as easily be cause by tiredness as anything else. Breathalizer tells us that it certainly was not caused by alcohol intoxication.

I cannot emphasize enough that you non-Ags do not understand the horrible (and well-deserved) reputation of the Kampus Kops.

I haven't seen where his BAC was released but alcohol is not required to be intoxicated.

A good rule of thumb is always wait at least 24 hours for facts to sort out before passing judgement.

And every college has players get in trouble in one way or another. Some we never hear about and handled in house. Press these days (and it seems everyone is a reporter with their phone cameras) always looking for the splash headline.

Not condoning or convicting just think its wise to let facts surface before rushing to judgement.

Young kids do stupid things, that is nothing new. You just hope its not your team player/s is all.

Let’s do a checklist:

1. Was he speeding? Yes
2. Was he driving while impaired? No. He was below legal limit
3. If he hadn’t been accused of driving while impaired, would he have been illegally possessing a firearm? No
4. Did he break the law by having one joint in the car? Yes

I love how everyone thinks their campus police are especially terrible

Put it to you this way, campus police everywhere are the bottom rung of law enforcement. They're going to be inherently awful wherever you go. 99% of their duties are dealing with drunk college kids.

It’s on this thread. He blew .066 and .061

There is no accusation of any other substance in his system by anyone, and it’s certainly not in a police report
