How much does it hurt these players credibility that they are getting these benefits for the interview, and that a few of them have personal vendettas against the university?
That's really the only thing Auburn fans can cling to, that and the testimonies of every coach and player of the time, but it's not like anyone else is going to give a flip what they say.

i've been thinking it the whole time.
if they do X to get $$$$
why won't they do Z to get $$$$?

Same thing in the Bonds trial. The girl had a grudge but her testimony was still damning.

If you look at the history of every team that has gotten in trouble with the NCAA, the number of teams brought down by a player who lacks credibility because they are receiving benefits for blabbing is a bit disturbing.

What benefits? It's been reported that they weren't paid for their interviews.

It's something to consider, and you can expect to hear it in defense of the university whenever this is brought up unless an actual investigation is done with conclusive results being presented.
I'm not going to get in a pissing match, especially since I have to go get lunch soon.

Good thing Pat Dye is there to take care of things
Sorry, this is probably mean sarcasm under the circumstances... but another major problem Auburn has is the guys who got them into trouble before have remained intimately associated with the program
This is another reason the NCAA could go apeshit on their arse... busted for cheating in the early 90s and a lot of the same people are still floating around the program 20 years later?
Not good

It's basic Skinnerian operant conditioning. If you start rewarding a chicken with corn and the chicken, at some point, runs out of corn, the chicken will subsequently start pecking around on anything close-by to find it. In this case, it's HBO. That's the problem with giving these pecker-heads "corn" in the first place.

It doesn't. Not to the NCAA at least. The guy who took down SMU had zero credibility whatsoever from a personal perspective, but he was willing to spill the beans so it didn't matter.

Thanks for making a shitty wednesday somewhat entertaining! (this thread)

I'm not going to be online much today it looks like every former Auburn player and their mother are lashing out at these four.
It is worth mentioning that three of the four have their own personal axes to grind against Auburn, and McClover is getting benefits for the interview.
I'm not saying they are lying, not even close, even if I'd like to believe they were.
This is PR that isn't going to go away for a long time to say the least. I just hope that Auburn didn't do anything wrong, and if they did they need to get their crap under control because as much as the current system sucks, all schools have to have some degree of compliance.
First things first Ross -
Get rid of Bobby Lowder, Pat Dye, Chette Williams and his bagman Wayne Hall first. That should dry up the money trail a good bit. Then y'all take a good hard look at Trooper & Luper - then move the frick on the Sean Nelson, Walt Williams, etc.

Ross, SMU's final straw was due to a player with an ax to grind against SMU.
Those are usually the ones to tell. The ones that take happiness in bringing down a program they didn't see eye to eye with.
It's not usually the star players loved by everyone within the program.

None, they didn't get paid for the interviews. Kramer just said so. sCam didn't come on as he wanted to get paid.

There isn't much to have a pissing match over. Auburn paid some kids. Alabama pays some kids. Even Vandy pays some kids. I know guys that played for a crappy C USA team that paid kids. The system is dirty.
You have made fun of a lot of the tinfoil hat guys recently. Obviously you look a bit silly with new information coming out every day. However, I just think until the NCAA tackles the system instead of making an example out of one or two schools, then it is always going to be this way. Martha Stewart got put in jail for insider trading, yet every CEO in America isn't doing the same thing? Throw somebody under the bus and hopefully everyone will think you're being proactive. The NCAA is basically a joke.
